September 15, 2025ICTU Warns of Worker Objections to Israeli Actions in Gaza - 15/09/2025The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has said that workers in Ireland should not be placed in "unconscionable situations" of facilitating trade with Israel or handling Israeli goods while attacks on Gaza continue.ICTU has called on the Government to step up its response by ending trade with Israel.ICTU said that it and other unions are reviewing procurement and pension investments to ensure non-complicity in Israel's actions."While Ireland has made diplomatic efforts within the EU, the failure to implement real sanctions means some trade union members fear being complicit in Israel’s violence," said ICTU General Secretary Owen Reidy.Owen Reidy joined us on The Agenda this morning to tell us more about this. September 15, 2025More than 1 in 4 Irish Adults Still Don’t Have a Retirement Plan in Place - 15/09/2025More than a quarter of Irish adults (26%) still have no financial arrangements at all for their retirement, according to new research published today by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC). This has increased from 21% last year (one in five). The survey also found that almost one-third of pension holders regret not starting their contributions earlier. Of those who do not have a pension in place, affordability and putting it on the long finger were cited as the top barriers, with 25% of respondents saying they can’t afford it (down from 30% last year), and 19% admitting they haven’t gotten around to it yet. Tony also told us about the detrimental affect it has had on his mental health and about how he has even attempted to take his own life as a result of the daily torture and torment that is going on in the estate.
