Jamie Oliver’s business empire slumped to a loss of nearly £20m last year, dragged down by a grim year at his restaurant chain which was forced to close a dozen outlets in February.

The company said it had suffered from the “ongoing challenges of the casual dining sector”, which has resulted in a series of well-known restaurant chains, including Carluccio’s and Byron, closing outlets after over-enthusiastic expansion followed by significant increases in costs, particularly rent and labour.

30 September 2018: British Politician Jo Swinson is the deputy leader of the Liberal Democrat Party in the UK and has started a campaign in the UK for greater transparency when it comes to parental leave policies.

The campaign comes as a new study shows one in five employers admit that a woman’s promotion chances are impacted if she is pregnant or has children, and one in eight say women are taken less seriously when they return from maternity leave.

Natasha Ednan-Laperouse was travelling with her father and a school friend from London to Nice when she collapsed during a British Airways flight on 17 July 2016.

After treatment on the plane and at the airport failed to revive her, she was taken to a French hospital but, with no prospect of recovery, her life support was switched off later that day.

An inquest into her death at London coroner’s court on Monday heard that shortly before boarding the plane, after carefully checking the label herself and then getting her father to double-check, the teenager ate an artichoke, olive and tapenade baguette bought from a Pret a Manger shop in Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport.

Apple has been criticised by 'feminists' for designing iPhones which are ‘too big’ for the average female hand..

Campaigners have responded angrily to the news that the technology company will be discontinuing the iPhone SE, which has a smaller screen. They argue that as the average female hand is an inch shorter in width compared to the average male’s, women need the option to buy smaller devices.

David Tobias was handed the hefty charge by the telco after being signed up for wrong package due to an online glitch - so shocked he said he "almost had a heart attack" after being billed for Dh70,000 to cancel a phone package he was wrongly signed up for because of an online glitch.

Weight Watchers has slimmed itself down. It has rebranded itself as WW.

The company says that the name reflects its new emphasis on wellness, although the name has been mocked online, with one post noting that the title is made up of the words “double you”.

World Vegetarian Day coming on October 1st.

A flexitarian is defined as “one whose normally meatless diet occasionally includes meat or fish”. The term, first coined in 1998, describes people who mostly, but don’t always eat vegetarian foods.

Flexitarians focus on having vegetarian meals, rather than just not eating the meat served as part of a meat-based meal. Consciously reducing meat intake on three or more days a week is the suggested cut-off for being called a flexitarian.

25 September 2018: Chef Giorgio Locatelli's daughter Dita suffers from severe allergic reactions to multiple foods that can be life-threatening: if she takes a bite of a fresh tomato or eats something containing peanuts, it could kill her.

Giorgio is currently in Italy filming MasterChef but we are joined on the phone by his right hand, Salvo Sardo, the head chef of Ronda Locatelli based in Atlantis, The Palm.
