Seattle-based Woodturning artist Perry Shaw once ate pizza for a month straight, road his bicycle from the top of Florida to the bottom on an impulse, read all 30+ volumes of the Encyclopedia Britannica in a year, studied poverty and lived homeless for nearly a year on the streets of multiple major cities. He has built houses and furniture. He sleeps little. He’s obsessed with revealing the story of the trees through his art. He probably in the studio making art as you read this....In this interview, Perry talks about his journey as an artist as well as what he learned over a decade of working in hospice care and why the "successful" were often the most "impoverished" in their final hours.
