Mandisa Yende and Heaven Nen, are Grade 11 pupils at Jeppe High School for Girls. They spoke to us about The Ruth First Jeppe Memorial Trust that is holding a fundraising concert on Friday, August 31.
The concert is Part of Jeppe High School for Girls’ annual initiative to provide scholarships to deserving young women to develop them into principled leaders, the “Ruth First Jeppe Fiesta” takes place at Wits University’s Linder Auditorium at 7.30pm.

Our two Thought Leaders today were Latiefa Mobara, Executive Director of The Press Council and Professor Firoz Cachalia, the new Chairperson of the Board of the Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation.

Latiefa spoke about the Council announcing that it has translated the Press Code into isiZulu and Afrikaans. Professor Firoz spoke about his new role and the vision of The Kgalema Motlanthe Foundation.

Monica Laganparsad, news editor at New Frame, spoke to us about the not-for-profit, social justice media publication. New Frame IS dedicated to a pro-poor, pro-working class focus that aims to report faithfully and informatively about the lives and struggles of working class people, the marginalised and the unemployed, shack dwellers and refugees.

Co-authors Sihle Mthembu and Esinako Ndabeni spoke to us about their book called Born to Kwaito. Born to Kwaito revisits history as told through the vibrant lens of Kwaito, which is more than just music. Kwaito presented a new unbridled expression of Black South African youths.

Frans K. Smit, Cellar Master at Spier Wine Farm spoke to us about Spier Wine Farm launching a brand new wine range – Seaward. The aptly titled Seaward range is comprised of a sophisticated, lightly-wooded Chardonnay and a layered, spicy Shiraz.

Anathi Nonxuba spoke to us about his muffin business, The Muffin King. His business drive has attracted more than 17,000 followers on Facebook and he receives invitations from local businesses to give motivational talks. He sells about 500 muffins a day , making an average of R1 500 a day.

We spoke to Javier Aroyyo co-founder of Smartick a math program developed by a team of Educators, Psychologists, Mathematicians, and Engineers, and supported by the European Union.

Smartick has helped children in over 100 countries improve their grades by 83%. It's a revolutionary program that is also helping SA with its math crisis.

Marc Sevitz, co-founder of TaxTim spoke to us about the significance of paying your taxes as a citizen.

The aim of TaxTim is to assist taxpayers who are unable to afford the traditional tax practitioner, have trouble understanding the complexities of eFiling or cannot take the time off work to stand in a SARS queue.

Murray Hunter, creator of ‘Boris the Babybot’ & South African privacy activist
has written a children’s book about surveillance. He spoke to us about Boris the BabyBot, a quirky little robot with a single mission: to track and profile babies for the Big Data industry.

Our Guest Presenter was visual artist, Gabrielle Goliath, the 2019 Standard Bank Young Artist award winner for Visual Arts. She spoke to us about how her work, specifically about her current exhibition "This Song Is For".

We were also joined by Gabrielle's two guests : musician Nonku Phiri and Dr Saarah Jappie, who have both collaborated with Gabrielle on her current and past work.
