The exhibit which kicks off Jan 22, with an opening reception (reservations are necessary and runs through March 8, is in observance of Black History Month and recognition of the contributions African American artists have made in our community and the greater culture.

"Imprint" will feature visual artists Joe Willie Smith, Alvin Galloway, Phalen Booker, Wanda King, Kathi Williams, John Neville. According to the WVA, “these Arizona artists spark thoughtful and captivating dialogue through visual and interactive concept.”

Bassett, a very talented musician and singer, from Detroit, knows the challenges artists in all platforms are experiencing difficulties during this pandemic. Which is why the WVAC is sponsoring an array of activities all of which follow CDC COVID-19 protocols.

Jennifer sees her role as bringing volunteers and families in need together to coalesce the Saving Amy vision; ‘A world where all people come together as one community; empowering each other to experience life changing ways of living through inner transformation, compassion and love’.

She brings people together to work as a team, each individual adding their own unique strengths, to implement strategies and programs to reach the shared goal of breaking the cycle of homelessness.

Most importantly she is a mom of four amazing children, three young adults and one teenager, who each know they have a call to change the world in their own unique way. Jennifer believes we are all called to make a difference in the world. She states, “I have a front row seat to the generosity and kindness of humankind.

Saving Amy was founded with a mission to empower individuals and families transitioning out of homelessness by transforming lives through mentoring, teaching life skills, educational advancement, and financial stability through employment.

In collaboration with Arizonans Concerned About Smoking (ACAS) and the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), Dr. Hunter has assisted, supported, and rewarded implementation of non-smoking policies among many HBCU’s.

As a pastor, Dr. Hunter helps provide transitional, permanent, and affordable housing for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. Dr. Hunter has lived in Mesa 13+ years and has been very active in Arizona’s East Valley communities.

Leading efforts to ensure equal rights for all, Dr. Hunter was instrumental in creating meaningful, accountable community policing and currently serves on Mesa’s Use of Force Committee.

As leader of the East Valley NAACP for 6.5 year, her work with East Valley Police Chiefs was recognized with the Golden Rule Award (2019) by the Arizona Interfaith Movement. Dr. Hunter truly believes we can and we must commit to solve societal problems TOGETHER. Working, serving, giving and living TOGETHER and …. adhering to the GOLDEN RULE, treating others as we want to be treated … with dignity, integrity, honesty and respect.

My guest is Sarah Tyree, military veteran and Arizona LD 22  State Senate candidate. 

Join us as we discuss her life journey, state senate candidacy and her priorities if elected.

A native of Arizona, Tyree was born in Laveen and raised in Maryvale. She grew up in a single parent home, surviving abuse and poverty.

She graduated from Trevor Browne High School at the age of 17! After graduating, she joined the United States Army and served our country for 8 years.

At 21 she received her first Undergrad Degree in Social Work, followed by a second in Political Science. She then earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work.

After college, her work in the non-profit sector allowed her to work with legislators in Tennessee and Utah, providing knowledge, testifying in committee hearings and writing bills that now help provide safety and security for constituents.

It also allowed her to work together with other vulnerable and systematically oppressed populations. 

She currently serves as the Medical Special Needs Coordinator at Luke Air Force Base, where she’s able to continue giving back to her sisters and brothers in arms, by serving their families.

As a small business owner, she believes in autonomy. More than ever, she appreciates the freedom of choice because it has allowed her to step away from a world of survival and move into a world of abundance!

She is a firm believer in justice for all and not just some. She believes not just in equality, but in equity and that together, as a community, everyone can succeed!
