It seems as though a lot of people agree with Justin; they are lonely too. What can we do as Christians? We can love. When we love, we demonstrate to the world what is available to them in Christ Jesus, and we testify to the power of the gospel.

Paul is an apostle of Christ Jesus, not of any man. But he cares greatly about church unity, which is why he made this trip up to Jerusalem to consult with the other apostles. They recognized Paul as an apostle, they did not make him one, and they agreed about the gospel and the relation of faith and works, namely circumcision. There will always be those who attempt to add works to the gospel, but Paul does not budge, and neither should we. We are justified by faith alone apart from works. Faith in Jesus Christ is sufficient for salvation because His blood was sufficient for atonement.

The doctrine of election is a pride crusher. The doctrine of election presents us with the mighty will of God, and we must either kneel and accept that God is king and does what He wants, or we must attempt to reduce His right to do with creation whatever He pleases. Ultimately the doctrine of election is explained and illuminated by the doctrine of total inability, but there is only so much time. I hope this settles the issue for you, but my guess is that it won't. But ultimately, the doctrine of election is not a bitter medicine to swallow begrudgingly. The doctrine of election is a sweet and glorious message that exalts God and heightens our thankfulness and combats our pride.

Just as Paul is not an apostle of man but of God, so too is his gospel is not man's but God's. Paul is no ordinary apostle and the message he brings is anything but ordinary. All of this is proved by his life. He once persecuted the church, binding and executing the saints. But when Jesus was pleased to reveals Himself to Paul, he was changed by the irresistible grace of God and was a new man.
