A true American patriot known for his outspokeness -- a tribute to the memory of Joey Vento -- from Ron and Kay Rivoli of the Rivoli Revue who had the pleasure of doing two mini concerts at Geno's with CBS News.

Vento, the cheesesteak king who became a fierce advocate for conservative causes, died Tuesday after suffering a heart attack.

He was 71.

Vento founded his take-out eatery, Geno's Steaks, in South Philadelphia in 1966. But he made headlines for his political views five years ago, after posting a sign at the eatery that read: "This is America. When ordering, "SPEAK ENGLISH.' "

Since then, Vento achieved local-celebrity status by speaking out -- in person, on conservative talk shows and in his own radio ads -- on issues like immigration and health care reform.

Earlier today we spoke with Christine O'Donnell about her US Senatorial campaigna nd the book she subsequently wrote about it titled "Troublemaker".  We'll replay the interview for you in case you missed it.

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) urged rank-and-file Republicans in a Wednesday memo to avoid brinksmanship in upcoming battles over Washington spending.

The message from the majority leader is an effort to prevent the kinds of fights over government spending that could lead to government shutdowns this fall if Congress cannot agree on legislation to fund the government.

It suggests Republican leaders worry they could take a political hit if there is a government shutdown from voters already irritated over the contentious summer talks over raising the debt ceiling.

Also, the Super Committee for Budget and possibly for Jobs.  Is this any way to run a government?

Yesterday the Department of Defense announced the names of the 30 service-members who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom who died Aug. 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed.

There are many questions swirling around this horrific tragedy.  Ominous theories, some from many former and active military who are saying they don't believe what DoD is putting out there. Some are calling for a Congressional investigation of this tragedy.

Ann Barnhardt has been contacted by several military members who  and has been writing extensively about it at her site.  Fairly or not, she's been accused of being conspiratorialist, but many more seem to be agreeing with her that the official story out of DoD doesn't smell right.
