Welcome back to Behind the Beef and Happy 2024! Although it feels we are well and truly back in the swing of things for the year, we are finally back with our first episode of 2024 and for it we were joined by Victorian producer, Brad Gilmour.
Brad hails from South West Victoria, where he and his family run a commercial Angus operation alongside a sheep operation. Brad is a past president of Angus Australia, serving as president from 2018 – 2020. He concluded his tenure on the Angus Australia board in 2023 and is a member of the Angus Victoria Breeders Group.
With a decades long history within the cattle industry, Brad has joined us to share about his Angus story, sharing with us about his operations and breeding philsophies and the reasons why he breeds Angus cattle.

Welcome to end of year episode of Behind the Beef – where we look back in retrospect to the year that was and look forward to years to come for Angus Australia and producers around Australia.
In this special end of year episode, we were joined by Angus Australia board chairperson and president Erica Halliday and Chief Executive Officer Scott Wright.
Scott and Erica had their share on rounding up a massive year for Angus Australia, covering a range of topics relating to the year that was for the society and the beef industry, as well as looking for the what’s in store in 2024.

Behind the Beef is back and kicking off with a bang! In this episode of Behind the Beef we were joined by Angus Australia member Rebecca George.
Rebecca and her family are commercial Angus producers from Nevertire in New South Wales. Rebecca is an active member of the Angus Youth program, and over 20 years has taken part in various activities and events hosted by Angus Youth including the Angus Youth National Roundup and the GenAngus Future Leaders Program. She has also been a previous recipient of various scholarships through the Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries Program and member of the Roundup Organising and the Angus Youth Consultative Committees.
Most recently however, Rebecca was the recipient of the 2019 Kansas State University Scholarship. Bec has recently returned from her time abroad & and has joined us to tell Behind the Beef to her story in agricultural and the Angus breed, as well as to give us some insight into her time over in the US.

This episode of Behind the Beef we were joined by Jono Spence, Director of livestock agency Spence Dix and Co, SA.
Jono is a well-regarded cattleman in the beef business. Jono has a background working in many facets of both stud and commercial sectors of the beef industry.
Coordinating the cattle side of the Spence Dix & Co business, Jonathan is also a recognized and experienced auctioneer.
Jono has joined me to talk market movements. Coming from the year that was 2022 in all its highs, we were interested in the opinion of someone with boots on the ground regarding what he had observed of the market in his region, as well as around the country, what trends have been noted, the final markets for seedstock and commercial animals being sold out of South Australia and the all-important crystal ball predictions.

In this episode of Behind the Beef we will be joined by Milly Nolan and Cam Parker, who through their roles in the industry are working to make change in terms of bettering and sustaining the industry in different ways.
Milly is a farmer/shearer’s daughter from regional VIC. She has experience across many agricultural supply chains all over Australia, including live export, extensive grazing in Western QLD, wool testing and meat research. Milly travels all over Australia to deliver professional development and supply chain capacity building workshops and now as the Program Manager for The Livestock Collective, Milly is keen to unite the livestock industry and ensure our voice is heard.
Cam Parker has had a wide and varied career. After actively contributing to policy setting bodies and representative groups as a producer in Victoria and in Queensland, Cam has shifted to a full-time policy career as Policy Manager at Primary Producers SA, working to bridge the gap between producers and those who influence and make decisions that affect Australian Agriculture. Cam has extensive experience and success in navigating complex matters on behalf of producers at a state and national level, working closely with governments, bureaucracies, and the National Farmers Federation.

Behind the Beef is back for the first episode of 2023, and this episode we had the pleasure of speaking to some young people who are doing big things in the beef industry.
We spoke to three young beef business owners - Dayna Grey, Jack Laurie and Ben Lucas - who each own and are continuing to grow a business that services the industry.
Dayna, Jack and Ben each give a little insight into their lives and businesses, and how they are making steps to grow themselves in business through taking developmental opportunities.

If you can believe it, the final episode of Behind the Beef for 2022 is here and we are doing our yearly recap for Angus Australia to look back at the year that was and reflect on the achievements of Angus producers around Australia.
To do this, we will be chatting to the managers of the various units that make up Angus Australia, who will give some insight into the happenings that have affected their departments and in turn Angus producers over the last 12 months.

In today's episode we have been we speaking to two people positioned at two different parts of the supply chain.
We had the opportunity to speak to Libbi Thompson from Whyalla Beef and celebrity chef Fast Ed. Both of our guests are involved heavily in the beef supply chain and with Angus beef in their roles, however, ultimately are at two different ends of it – with Libbi working towards to top end of the chain, and Fast Ed further down in preparing the product and feeding the ultimate end – our consumers.
Libbi and Fast Ed shared with us the story about how they got to be where they are in the industry today and some background in the role they play within the beef supply chain.
