APE DAY in June falls on the twenty-ape-th, so that means it's time for more KONG! This time our resident Kong-spert Erin joins us once again to delve into the dark, moody, allegedly campy world of 1976's King Kong, the father of the modern gritty reboot. Is Jessica Lange high? Will Charles Grodin's corrupt oil magnate validate Jeff Bridge's pretentious paleo-primatologist's cynical contempt? Well, does a Kong fight dinosaurs? (This time, sadly no…) Will we also talk about Rogue and Gambit, Japanese pizza, and pirated copies of Demolition Man? Just as surely as Kong is one creepy, skeevy ape! Come get deep throated with us as we take another thrilling detour to Skull Island!
Jack and Geoff are joined by returning guest (and Marvel Star Wars Explorer) Brian Rudloff to discuss the 4th episode of the POTA TV series, The Good Seeds. And it's a bumper crop of lively discussion as the three ponder Pete's questionable wisecracking, the hilarity of Apes in humanface, and the bizarre, superstitious world of agriculture on the Planet of the Apes!
In a similar situation to the one Pete and General Urko face, Jack and Geoff find themselves trapped in Jack's dingy apartment and have to work together to get through this podcast about the third episode of the 1970s Planet of the Apes television serie
It's the 28th of the month, which means it's time for another special APE-isode! This time, Jack and Geoff are joined by returning guest (and ApeCast theme song composer) Amos Dunn for a discussion of recently-released 80's arcade game adaptation RAMPAGE. They talk about their history with the source material, the bottomless fount of charisma that is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and revel in the movie's fun brand of smashy, chompy mayhem. There's also some old business to hash out in the Sacred Scrolls mailbag. Do you smell what the ApeCast is cooking? Give a listen and find out!
Jack and Geoff are joined by returning guests Kevin Young and Kregg Castillo for a look at episode 2 of the POTA TV series: The Gladiators! And it's nothing less than a conversational battle royale as the four marvel at Pete Burke's sweet pro-wrestling moves, discuss the awesomeness of the humans-hunting-humans film genre, and check out another classic '74 cut from Geoff's Geoukebox!
May the Fourth be with you! Even though this is The ApeCast, we love Star Wars too much not to talk about it, so Geoff and Jack have brought back Duncan Hughes to get wasted and talk about The Last Jedi! Squadron up!
In this episode of the ApeCast, a new epoch (or APEoch) begins! Jack and Geoff start their coverage of the 1974 Planet of the Apes TV series with an examination of the pilot "Escape From Tomorrow." Amidst their discussion, the boys reaffirm their affection for Roddy McDowall, lay the groundwork for a Flinstones reboot, and engage in a little light-hearted ribbing of Japan's culinary tendencies. ApeCast Phase II is a go!
They're finally here, performing for you! Welcome to Donkey Kong Country! For the first annual APE-RIL Special, Geoff and Jack have assembled a whole gorilla troop of Kong-loving game nerds for a mega-sized barrel blast of Kong-tainment! Barm, Sam Stovold, Kevin Young, and in their ApeCast debuts, Kregg Castillo and Duncan Hughes join us for an in-depth discussion of Donkey Kong's storied history, all the way from the 1981 arcade smash that brought the world Mario and DK to his Rareware developed 1990's heyday to the strange Gamecube era right up to his current successful partnership with Retro Studios. What we've played, what we didn't, what we liked, what we didn't like, and what is it about the graphics, the sound, the gameplay, and yes, the ATTITUDE that makes the series so beloved? What about the DK rap!? What of DONKEY KONG JR. MATH!? Is Cranky really the original Donkey Kong? Why the heck is he named Donkey Kong? It's all in here! Come on, Cranky, take it to the FRIDGE!
After gushing over Conspiracy of the Planet of the Apes last week, Geoff and Jack's dreams come true, as the author of the book, Andrew E.C. Gaska, sits down to talk with them about it and answer some of their questions. He gives us an inside look at the process behind how the project came together, how he managed to get the fantastic collection of artwork seen in the book, and how it ended up getting him his current position as the overseer (the Lawgiver?) of Planet of the Apes continuity. This is the guy Fox comes to when they have questions about the Timeline of the Apes! (And Predator). Jack and Geoff don't waste the opportunity to nerd out with Mr. Gaska on all those nagging Apes continuity questions, discover how Hasslein curves make all Apes continuity possible, the strange and funny story about how comics legend Jim Steranko ended up illustrating the cover and influencing the plot, and what's in store for us later this year when his next book, Destroyer of the Planet of the Apes, rocks our world. It's such a relief to discover one of the chief architects of modern Ape-dom is less of a Zaius and more of a Cornelius. In other words, he's a fan too.

Like the tin-foil hat-wearing paranoiacs they are, Jack and Geoff delve into Conspiracy…of the Planet of the Apes! In this examination of author Andrew E.C. Gaska's beautifully-illustrated novel, our intrepid hosts touch upon their fondness for sympathetic gorillas, surprisingly precise statistical probabilities across science fiction, fascinating Apes world-building, and so much more! NOTE: Due to a screw-up on Geoff's part, the audio for this episode is not up to usual ApeCast standards. Please accept our sincerest APE-ologies!
