We’re going to jump right in with today’s topic which has been a real focus of mine since starting this podcast and my other social platforms which is being more honest and transparent within the hobby.

I’ve been posting a lot of videos and content throughout my social media platforms for a while now attempting to break the chains on how fabricated a lot of the stuff we see online is. More often than not you will tend to find many people posting content which promotes the good things that are happening in their aquariums. This could be the new light they’ve just purchased which is going to enhance coral growth or an amazing new fish they’ve picked up at their local fish shop, but forget to ever talk about the time when something went wrong or a regret purchased they made.

Today, I’d like to delve a little deeper into something slightly fish related and kind of the reason I started this podcast to help give a more honest insight into this hobby.

Recently I’ve been speaking to a few good friends whom I’ve met through this hobby online and it’s becoming ever more apparent as with anything related I feel with social media about the constant need to be “Liked” or show everyone how popular you are. I feel a lot of this now stems from many people thinking because they have a brand sponsoring them they are now part of the elitist.

In this episode I we’re talking tannins. Yes the part of the hobby which kind of gets put to the side due to the often referred to as “dirty” look. Which personally I LOVE! So I’m no expert in the world of botanicals but I have tried a couple of aquariums with a natural style and I have to say I think they look amazing, I love the tinted colour of the water from all the tannins released from either the driftwood or leaves.

In this episode I’d like to talk a bit about planted aquariums, what they are and what you REALLY need to get started.

A planted aquarium is well…an aquarium which uses live plants. This style of aquarium is becoming ever more popular within the hobby and now newcomers are often ditching the fake plastic plants and treasure chest bubble makers of the past and replacing them to create a more natural feel.

As touched on in the previous episode I’d like to chat a little about the world of saltwater aquariums or “Reefing”. As I talked about previously, this part of the hobby is probably one of the most visually appealing and yet everywhere you look within shops or online it appears that you can only introduce yourself into this part of the hobby with a big wod of money.
