Purse worth the money.
When Darren Purse signed for Argyle in the winter of 2011, he had already played and scored in a cup final, won promotion to the Premier League and had a couple of seasons at England’s top table. However, the seemingly impossible escape from relegation at the end of the 2011/12 season is the highlight of a 28 year-long career.
It was almost a career that didn’t even get started, as Pursey pursued a job as a pilot. However, success early on with Orient and Oxford gave him a chance to prove how good he was and Birmingham City under the watchful eye of Trevor Francis was the making of him.
A couple of decades and 15 clubs later he’s chatting to us.
