Intellect vs. emotions.  Power vs. compassion.  Logic vs. Intuition. These traits typically are gendered as being masculine and feminine respectively, a distinction between the mind and body.  But what if these distinctions are merely a case of cultural pigeon holing?  False dualities? What if these traits actually represent the spectrum of our individual humanity and aren't competing or contradicting at all?  Welcome to the work of Melanie Klein.

Melanie is a professor of Sociology and Women's Studies, an Empowerment Coach,  author, speaker and mother.  She explains why emotions, women's studies and these "feminine" traits are so important to both men and women as we exist in our current social structure. She shares her own journey of rediscovery and reintegrating.  For a long time she had abandoned many of her "feminine" traits in favor of academic and driven focus but felt isolated and incomplete.  When had she lost the courageous little girl that she once was?  Though sociology and feminism, yoga and mindfulness, Melanie was able to remarry the competing aspects of herself only to discover that all those traits could actually exist within her.  By fully embracing the full spectrum of herself as an integrated being, she continues a chain of mentorship and intergenerational bonds, creating awareness and possibility for what we individually and culturally can be.

If you think you don't have any addictive or escaping behaviors, think again. While most of us readily acknowledge how substances can become addictive, everything from the way we eat, spend money, use technology or interact with others can become a form of unhealthy escapism. Emotional Wellness Coach, Tania Tuck returns once again to explain that when we feel shame, guilt, depressed or fear, we tend to look to escape our feelings through an action that gives us a short term hit of dopamine ( happy chemicals) and sense of escape. This behavior is here because it somehow serves us but leads us into dysfunctional coping when it is costing us our present or our future. The key is to determine the source of the void or what we cannot reconcile that we are trying to escape from. She Explains the Universal Law of Relativity as a new way of perceiving these behaviors and how to replace our escaping with better behaviors.

"What would I do if I wasn't afraid?"  Answering this question lead me to some surprising self-realizations.  I am pretty adventurous and take pride in challenge myself (cage diving with Great White sharks, own a 6 " boa constrictor and started my art business and a podcast!)  But emotional fears have actually been my taskmaster most of my life, deciding my career path, the relationships I have been in, my dynamic with money... 

In this session with Emotional Wellness Coach, Tania Tuck we discuss fear and anxiety. Each week we are looking into common stressors of the human experience and proving you tools to overcome them.  Fear is a feedback mechanism from our body that is intended to keep us safe.  But our powerful human imagination can often hijack that sensation and keep us stuck in a suspended state of fear.  Tania explains the Universal Law of Conservation and how this knowledge allows us to both listen to the wisdom of our body while avoiding spinning out over all the "what if's." The unhealthy kind of FEAR stands for "False Evidence Appearing Real."  Am I being triggered by a past memory that is no longer my current reality?  Am I fearing loss?  Or of something bad happening?  Tania shows us that focusing on being present allows us to drop what is being imagined.

Tania and I met at a conference supporting those touched by adoption- Tania was attending as an Emotional Wellness Coach and as an adoptee herself and I was there to educate my empathy on the subject.  As soon as I saw the kind of healing work Tania does in her coaching, I knew I had to have her on The Ariadne Project!  She shared her journey of "finding perfection in her story," how our values and priorities are develope and how this awaress can improve all of our human dynamics.  We relaized that we had even more overlap in our interests than a single episode could cover.  Her background in teaching and my role as an Empowerment Artist (and the entire purpose behind this podcast!) has made us both passionate about providing our audience with actionable steps to create positive change in our lives.  So we decided to colaborate for a series!

I have now experienced some of Tania's coaching and it has given me insights and a few more pieces of my puzzel.  It reiterated to me how universal the human experience truly is.  We all experience stressors such as shame, depression, anxiety, and fear.  It only varies by degrees.  These are the very subjects that Tania has coached hundreds of clients from around the globe on.

It was at her own 30th birthday party that Tania looked around her world and realized that none of the people there represented who she actually was.  These people didn't really know her as her whole self because she hadn't really aknowledged her whole self before even to herself.   "Who am I?"  That question lead her on a journey of discovery, learning to be authentic and making the hard breaks with what wasn't in alignment.  But Tania doesn't believe that she is now living a full life despite her history, but actually because of it.  Her divorce, being a single mom, and leaving a career are just as important as finding her life's work, building a wonderful marriage and tradmarking her Spectum of Wisfdom Process (SOW).

Tania shares her insights as an Emotional Wellness Coach, and a Demartini Method facilitator to help us learn how to aknowledge our own personal tuths, values and needs and how to be authentic in our all of our human dynamics.  She helps us see how even the most negative pieces of our history give us the opportunity for pesonal expansion and for learning empathy.  The bricks of the labyrinth that were once a barrier can now be used to build our own road.

Oleg Lougheed was born into the world with all the odds stacked against him.  His mother was an alcoholic and he never knew his father.  There were days that he stole food to survive and nights that he slept on the street. At nine years old he entered the orphanage in hopes of finding a better life.  

I had the pleasure of meeting Oleg as the empowed adult, offering resources and hope wthin the adoption/ foster community as the founder of Overcoming Odds. The experiences of that orphan boy in Russia shaped him but he has not let those experiences define who he is as a person.  He is truely an exaple of one who is using his hardships to bring healing to himself and others.  He offers insights and tools from his own experiences that apply to all of us in our common human stuggle, whatever it may be.  May we all find our voice and learn to stand in our truth.
