YES is such a nice word, and it is connected emotionally to the most important moments in our lives, like moments of joy and abundance. Moments like getting into a school, getting married, getting a new job, qualify for a loan for your first house. I’m sure we all can remember our best yes answers and how those yes has changed our lives in a positive way.
My dad used to say to me: you have to learn to say no, and mean it.
I didn’t understand that until I was much older. And while I am recording this, I am starting to think of all the times I have said yes to others, and I have said no to myself. How many times I have said yes because I just wanted to feed my ego, because I wanted to be the good friend, or because I didn’t know how to say no.
How many times have you given up your peace and got involved in the problems and drama of those who are perfectly capable of healing themselves, yet they choose not to? Because that’s another way we say yes, when we should say no.
We all go through the fear of saying no, and not being liked, when in reality that is a small price to pay when it comes to saying yes to ourselves? Plus the obvious health consequences that will bring pleasing everyone and not having time for yourself because at some point you will get overbooked and burned out.
When you face a situation, when you are in doubt, consider the cost of both, yes, and no, and choose what is less conflicted for you. One thing you can never get back is time. Say Yes! to reading a book, to a walk in nature, to having family time. Say Yes! to taking a bath, to meditate, to connecting with somebody, you haven’t talked in a long time.
I always tell my clients and my kids, put the oxygen mask on you first like They ask us to do in the plane. Only then you will be able to help somebody else.
Make sure you make your priorities a priority, and make sure that you are one of those priorities.
