Kandy's back story.

We meet Ms. Kane as she begins her quest to find and deliver justice for her friends Dominique and Georgette, two of the few remaining members of a tribe of people once referred to as "circus freaks" - and proud of it. Chapter One introduces Kandy's main adversary, Rondo the Clown, a chameleon-like con man who would prove to be a formidable opponent, being a slippery snake rivaling any of the many species of both animal and human she'd ever encountered in her life in the semi-tropical jungle known as SW Florida. Synopsis: Kandace (Kandy) Kane is a precocious, adventurous, and - to those who don't know her - kooky spitfire of a young woman who appears as though she just rolled out of bed, wild-eyed and frizzy-haired, dressed in whatever she could find from some pile of clothing scrounged out of the nearest charity drop box. To friends, family, and all in her "circle of trust" however, Kandy is known to be a loyal and beloved member of a very unusual "family"; an intelligent former NASA space aeronautics engineer; an accomplished acrobat; skilled in a number of Secret Arts & Sciences - passed on to her through her Aunt Gypsy and Gypsy's best friend, the mysterious "Madame JuJu"; a relentless Private Investigator; and last but not least, a love-lorn woman who has a knack for choosing male companions who don't always see eye-to-eye with the fiercely independent woman-girl who can change her look, her style, her direction, and her mind faster than one can say, "presto, chango!" Join Kandy on her first Case as she morphs her way from the depths of the mangroves entangled in the vast Sea of Grass - the Everglades - from the West to the East to the South and the North Coasts of Florida and everywhere in between, on a madcap mission that takes her out of her comfort zone and across the Great Country of America, to locate and apprehend the conman clown who swindled two of her dearest friends - members of a long-forgotten community of old-time "circus freaks" - the last of a "tribe" of people born "different" and proud of it. Tinged with the hazy gray of 1940-50's crime noir drama and intrigue; colored with a rainbow of characters that have to be experienced to describe or understand; filled with electrified suspense, racuous and ridiculous humor, and the kind of love and loyalty that's hard to find in the present day.
