The pandemic has changed the way we meet life, the way we perceive reality. Yet, life has in a way returned to its normal fast paced, disaster and conflict prone ways. Even as humanity is busy with normalizing this altered situation, it seems to be a good idea to absorb the life teachings of the last three few years.
Culture as Indians have known it is often referred to as being perennial. This is not only because of its antiquity. It is said to be self-renewing. A culture that reinvents itself constantly, so that it seems that it has clues of how we might meet massive changes, upheavals that occur in Nature.
In this series of blogs. Dr. Bharat Thakur ventures on a deep and wide exploration Indian culture as a global culture. We begin with presenting the first chapter, ‘Message of the Rishi’ which is set in four blogs.
REVISITING INDIAN CULTURE AND TEACHINGS OF GLOBAL INDIAN THINKERS IN TIMES OF PANDEMICS
Part 1 - THE MESSAGE OF THE RISHI
Chapter 1: Doorway To The Imperishable
Chapter 2: The Knots That Tie Us Down
Chapter 3: The Gift Of Fire
Chapter 4: Life The Antidote
In ‘The Message Of The Rishi’, Dr. Bharat Thakur takes us directly to the teachings that are enshrined in a particular part of the Veda called the Upanishads. Many knowers say, that in the Upanishads, you can get a glimpse of the finest and most timeless essence of the perennial culture, also called ‘sanatana’, which is etymologically described as ‘nitya nutana’, “a culture that ever new”.
What is the source of this fountain of life? in the first of the four chapters, ‘Doorway To The Imperishable’, we get introduced to the ‘rishi’, the ‘seer’ whose teachings were about immortality, about imperishability, who yearned to induce in his beloved students, this knowledge of the beyond.
