Dave Crenshaw Color +| Sound Exhibit | The Arts Council Ladies | Conversations with Creatives Color + Sound is a tactile art installation exhibit that will feature the music of Dave Crenshaw and the art of Michelle Branson, Michelle Reynolds, Rae Lynn Dodson, Banks Compton, and Jennifer McConnell. This exhibit is curated by Lindsay Dyess. The idea for this art exhibit came to life after curator and artist Lindsay Dyess listened to Crenshaw’s album, Color + Sound. She wanted to explore that idea further by creating a sensory based art exhibit where people could explore art installations using multi-sensory stimuli to enhance their understanding of art. The exhibit is a modern art installation with an emphasis on accessibility to all people. This exhibit encourages people to touch, explore and immerse themselves in the installations to get a better understand of the art form. Each exhibiting artist has experience in different mediums which enhances the uniqueness of each installation. The artists were randomly assigned a different color to use within their work and artists were encouraged to use a variety of textures and items in their work that are interactive and could be inclusive to blind and deaf visitors. Gallery visitors are encouraged to touch, explore, walk through, sit under, stand in the middle of-become part of the work. Art is not just for the sighted, it should be available and accessible for anyone to appreciate. Shelby County Arts Council

Misty Bennett is an Professor of Art and director of painting concentration at the University of Montevallo. She received the Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Georgia in Drawing and Painting in 2002 and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 1996.Her work has been shown widely across the Southeast, at museums, galleries, and non-profit spaces in both solo and group exhibitions. Her recent accomplishments include publication in New American Paintings Magazine, Southeastern Edition 2010, invitational exhibition at her alma mater, Savannah College of Art and Design in 2011, and an artist residency at the Hambidge Center in Rabun Gap, Georgia.

Damon Johnson is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was first recognized nationally for fronting Brother Cane and scoring three #1 singles on U.S. Rock Radio in the 1990s (“Got No Shame”, “And Fools Shine On”, and “I Lie In The Bed I Make”).  With that band, he honed his craft with relentless touring and support slots with the likes of Van Halen, Aerosmith and Robert Plant. Since then Johnson has co-written songs for Stevie Nicks, Carlos Santana, Steven Tyler, and Sammy Hagar. After a short stint working with British vocalist John Waite, Johnson toured the world for several years as guitarist for Alice Cooper and in 2011 he joined legendary Irish rock group, Thin Lizzy. In 2013 the core of that band morphed into a new group, Black Star Riders, and released three well-received albums. Johnson has had several solo releases in recent years, including ‘Birmingham Tonight’ (2018), ‘Memoirs Of An Uprising’ (2019) and ‘Battle Lessons’ (2021). Since August of 2021, Johnson has been on lead guitar in Lynyrd Skynyrd, performing all the parts of their late great founding member and guitar legend Gary Rossington. And in 2026, a reformed Brother Cane will release ‘Magnolia Medicine‘: the band’s first full length new album since 1998.
