Welcome to another episode of The Audacious Babe Podcast, which is designed for YOU - the audacious female photographer. To help you along your photography business journey and to inspire and empower you to embrace your inner SuperWoman and turning that dream business and dream life of yours into a reality. Anyhoooo. I’ve already introduced Claire last time, but just to summarise, Claire is the photographer and owner of her photography business Unscripted Photography by Claire Batey. Primarily she is a family documentary photographer but has expanded her natural and pure documentary style to weddings now as well.

Claire and I have known each other for years and so these two episodes of her interview are more like a conversation than an actual interview. We are rambling on about some stuff but that’s what makes this so much fun. You get to listen into our random conversations about photography and running a business.

Today I am really excited to introduce you to my good friend Claire Batey from Unscripted Photography. This interview will be a 2-part episode. So I will share with you the first part of my conversations with Claire today and then have part 2 next week. We had such a good time chatting and I think all of the chat was very valuable and fun, so I didn’t want to edit it down and cut it into just one 30-45min long segment. But then again no one has time to listen to a 1.5 hour long conversation either,  so I’ve decided to turn it into a 2-parter instead. 

In this part 1 we will chat about Claire’s photography journey and she will share her story how it all got started but then we also dive into some marketing tips on what she did to get noticed in the beginning and throughout her business years. Then we go on about time management and how she tries to juggle her busy family life with her business life. And we’re having a laugh about the horrors of the never ending to do list.

Background info:

Claire and I have known each other for quite a few years now, she was my first British friend that I’ve made when I came over to the UK back in 2011. We have worked together in our former full time jobs in marketing and have become good friends over the years, before we both even turned our passions into businesses.

Claire Batey is the owner and photographer at Unscripted Photography - capturing the beauty of the every day. She is primarily a documentary family photographer but has also expanded into documentary wedding photography. Her style is pure documentary and capturing the every day moments. She does both very stunningly through imagery and film. She always had a love for photography and after having her little boy Harry she became more involved in capturing him as he discovered the world. And like so many other mom-togs out there, friends started to notice those photographs of little Harry and asked if she could photograph their family. And with that Unscripted Photography by Claire Batey was born in 2015.

More often than not unfortunately, we find ourselves in the comfort of our own little bubble - the bubble of the comfort zone that we have created for ourselves. 

A nice, quiet, comfortable and very secure place where we feel safe and routinely go on about our lives. We are rarely ever forced to leave the bubble and even if we are, we jump right back into it as soon as possible. 

Because the outside - the unknown - is scary. BUT more often than not, this holds us back from ever achieving the aspirations we dream of, the things we desire the most. They seem almost unreachable to us.

You’ve probably heard this saying before “great things will happen outside of your comfort zone”. And it is TRUE! 

So, here are my tips on getting you out of your zone one little tiny step at a time. Also I've created a few little printables. Print them out and hang them on your wall. Stick them to your mirror or glue them on your fridge. Wherever it helps you, where you can see them every day and let them serve you as little reminders to keep pushing yourself and get you out of your bubble, one step at a time. 

Because, believe me, when I say: 

magical things happen outside of that zone!

I am especially excited about today's episode of THE AUDACIOUS BABE podcast as I got to interview the wonderful Kerry Jordan from Whippet Snippets Dog Photography.

In this interview with Kerry Jordan about dog photography, Kerry let's us have a little sneaky peek at the behind the scenes of her business and processes. We explore her humble beginnings as a wedding photographer and how she then quickly went about establishing herself as a dog photographer instead. We also dive deeper into how she overcame initial obstacles in her business and how to NOT play the comparison game anymore.

To truly start this podcast off, I thought it was quite fitting to talk about the 5 Golden Steps To Setting Your Goals The Inspired Way. Yes! I know goal setting can be a bit of a tedious task and might not be fun for some, and some of you might even think, how is this relevant for a photography business… I just take pictures for clients.

No. I believe any type of business that wants to succeed in the business world needs goals.

Goals are basically your dreams put into action.

Goal setting gives you that focus and direction. When you think about it, goal setting can a very powerful tool. It allows you to take control of your business and even of your life if you wanted to include life goals. It also provides you with a benchmark for success - so it can actually be a great motivator to keep going, to keep doing what you’re doing and to keep you focussed.

Goal setting is a great process that starts with figuring out what it is that you actually want to achieve - short-term or long-term - and ends with a lot of hard work but having the steps laid out for you on how to get there.

Ok but in order to create successful goals, I believe you need to have a certain mindset. You need to be open minded, allow yourself to dream and really get into the depths of what you actually want in life and in business. The goals need to be achievable, meaningful to you and very specific. Also add a time-frame to them. This will help to get into action about them.

Here are my 5 golden steps that you can use to help you with setting some amazing goals and ensures that you will tick them off one by one in no time.

Step 1: Write down your dreams and visions

Step 2: Now look at your dreams and let’s start to make them more actionable and turn them into incremental goals.

Step 3: Formulate your goals in an affirmative way.

Step 4: Celebrate yourself and reward yourself every time you have reached a goal.

Step 5: Review your goals on a regular basis. Rewrite new incremental goals.

Welcome to the Audacious Babe Podcast - Episode # 1 - Introduction.

The Audacious Babe Podcast is an online community for passionate like-minded audacious female photographers. It is here to inspire you, empower you and help you run successful photography businesses. 

This is going to be a weekly podcast and its main focus is going to be interviews of other female photographers. We will be going behind-the-scenes of how they run their business, what challenges they might have faced along the way and how they overcame these.

Each audacious babe will share their story and share their photography journey, so that you feel hopefully inspired and/or learn from them to bring your own business to the next level. Each interview will also dive deep into a specific topics, for example second shooting or the struggles of being a mum and running your business on the side. Just some take-aways that might help you.

In addition to the interview episodes, I will create some episodes where I will share some tips and treats with you as well. This can be practical business related tips and to dos, or just some food for thought to pull you out of your comfort zone and make you think outside of the box. So hopefully you find those interesting and valuable as well.

Running your own business can be quite lonesome sometimes. We are constantly in our heads and there are so many challenges to face. BUT believe me, you are not alone, my lovelies. We all have phases of self-doubt, procrastinations, chronicle lack of time and so on. But we also have happy times and photography is the source of your passion. You chose to setup your own business and become a photographer because you want to lead a different life. One filled with passion, one of freedom and one away from the 9 to 5 grind… Am I right?! So let’s make this happen! Let’s do this! And let’s do this together!
