The Average Podcast: Movie Reviews for Social Settings

Released at the tail end of #2023 this movie left nobody feeling that special #christmas #joy. What it did do however, was get people talking. This movie discusses some really heavy subjects including #death and #suicide.  At its core is a moving story of breaking #generationalcurses wrapped up in a #wrestling movie.

There are lessons to be learned here, about parents living vicariously through their children. Putting pressure on your #children to be what you want them to be and not what they want to be and the kind of emotional damage possible when pushing too hard.

This movie is not hard to watch, in fact it is tastefully handled and artfully done, inviting the viewer to be a fly on the wall during very difficult situations. But those situations may just be too real, and too hard for some viewers to sit through.

Part 2 of our six part Broadcast Interruption series is here! We are joined by, and I am so excited to say this, author Ivy Tholen! I was talking with her about joining us for a full movie review, but she found out we were doing True Detective and said she had a lot to say about this! If you are unfamiliar with her, she has written two slasher fiction novels: Tastes Like Candy and Maul Rats as well a ghost story in Permanent Damage

We break down Episode 2 of Night Country scene by scene and tell you what we thought, what we liked and maybe what we didn’t. And the episode has dropped just in time for you to listen and get caught up before the #premier of episode 3 tonight!

As always, we want to know what you think of the season! No need to fill out a scorecard for this one, just drop those thoughts in the comments! And head over to Amazon to purchase one of Ivy’s novels! Or visit her website here: https://www.ivytholen.com/

Here we go! Season 2 premiere! Today we have two of the original members of the Average, from back when it was founded in 2018. I am joined by Trenton and Hayden as we discuss one of the biggest disappointments in recent cinema.  But the #memes were fire.

In 2022 #itsmorbintime swept the nation.  It was so popular in the cyber world that the movie studio actually sent the #movie BACK to #theaters.  But was the movie any good? Or did it deserve what it got?

Join us for the premiere episode to see what we thought! And as always, we want to hear from you! So click the link and leave your review and comments about #Morbius for us.

It’s Night 12 of the 13 Nights of Halloween! We are sorry to say that we had some audio issues with the episode.  We used an older cheap mic for some in house guests.  Please bear with us!

We have a contentious one here, folks.  Have you seen The ‘Burbs? The classic comedy/horror from Joe Dante starring Tom Hanks, Carrie Fisher and so many more? You have? You loved it right?

Oh you haven’t? Well. I don’t know… We find ourselves at odds on this! Does this movie have any relevance or enjoyment to offer you this Halloween season? Listen to the episode and find out!

We are almost there! Tomorrow is Halloween and we hope you are having as much as I have been.  We hope you join us again tomorrow!

Phew.  Catch your breath. It’s Night 11 of the 13 Nights of Halloween! It’s just Tim again tonight but I am joined by a familiar guest in Travel Maxel Boone from @thenightclubpodcast. You may remember him from Mars Attacks just a couple nights ago.

Tonight we dive into a movie by one of the more controversial directors of modern day: The Sixth Sense by M. Night Shyamalan.  Many love him, some despise his.  But most will admit that they like at least one of his films.  We happen to like quite a few!

Released 24 years ago this month, this movie took the world by storm.  Most of you have seen.  Those of you who haven’t still know the movie’s most famous line.  But this movie remains relevant and powerful today.  Join us as we discuss it’s positives and negatives.

It’s Night 10 of the 13 Nights of Halloween! It’s just Tim again tonight but I am joined by a stand-in Co-host and OG Average member: @hayhayludlow and Rich!

This was our unannounced film from 2020, The Invisible Man from Leigh Whannell, loosely based on the original novel by H.G. Wells.  A movie about tormenting your ex, reclaiming your life and escaping toxic relationships, it does what all the best horror movies do: wrap up real world issues and traumas in a horrific analogy. You can be entertained by what it does at the surface level: a horror movie about tormenting your ex.  Or you can take for the deeper story about escaping toxic relationships and reclaiming your independence.  That is up to you.

It’s Night 9 of the 13 Nights of Halloween! It’s just Tim again tonight but I am joined by a college buddy of mine, @mephistomonkee

Tonight we dive into a late ‘80s cult gem: Society. Underrated and underperforming in the US when it was released, it has gained cult status for its commentary on social classism wrapped up in a deliciously dark, and often comical, body horror film.  The climax of this film has a name: The Shunting, and it is a practical effects masterpiece of bodily absurdity and discomfort.  If you can get through the Beverly Hills teen drama that is the first hour of this film, you are in for one insane finale.  Just remember to have some fun!
