    This week the Mavens talk with two-time Guinness World Record Holder, Dave Farrow. 

    Holding the record for Most Decks of Playing Cards Memorized in a Single Sighting (which he reclaimed after someone else broke it), Farrow’s achievement is even more impressive when taking into account the fact that he was born with ADHD and Dyslexia, which he says admittedly gave him a sub-par memory at birth. But instead of being held back, he used this as a motivation to further understand his own brain, sending him on one of the most exciting journeys in overcoming what many would call a major setback.

    Able to read 25,000 words (or 80 pages) per minute, Berg developed this skill, not for joy, but as a necessity. Upon realizing his desire for a second degree within his junior year of college, Berg forced himself into becoming the world's fastest writer, which led to him earning his entire second degree in a span of one year, not to mention while working three jobs.

    This week the Mavens meet up with Guinness World Record holder Scott Flansburg to talk all things mathematics.

    A self-proclaimed “numbers guy,” Flansburg’s fascination with numerical concepts dates back to his childhood, where he’s spent his focus ever since. “Ever since I was a kid when I started learning about numbers I just kept seeing patterns I couldn’t see them and it made so much sense,” Flansburg explains. As an adult, Flansburg shocked the world as the “human calculator” when he outperformed a calculator in a race of adding two-digit constants. Even with such an impressive achievement to his name, Flansburg is no one-trick pony, building an impressive resume as a computer programmer, a member of the Air Force, and even an author, publishing Math Magic and Math Magic for Your Kids.

    With the Mavens, Flansburh discusses the methods behind his mathematical process, how to make math more accessible to children, and an alternative calendar concept that promotes consistency between days of the week and month.
