You may have heard horror stories from cyclists you know, like fishermen we’re known for some tall tales now and then. But take those stories with a grain of salt because there is some truth in them.

Riding a bike doesn’t have to embarrassing or scary, all you need to do is sit down and pedal. You may think that people will look at you weird, or quietly make fun of you, but so what if they do? For every person that judges you, there are probably 3 more that are either inspired by you or are happy to see another person on a bike. I’ve had cheap bikes, box-store bikes, and bike shop bikes. While I can tell the difference between them all, the one thing I can’t do is tell you one is better than the other. They’re bikes, you pedal them and move forward. It doesn’t matter what you ride, it’s more important that you do ride.

This challenge is going to be fun!- said no one ever. This one will be tough, but worth it. Over the last couple of years, I haven't been able to get out to my favorite climbs. So, as a part of my training for my JDRF Ride later this year, I'm going to challenge myself to get 6 Personal Records on 6 of my favorite climbs before I reach the elevation of Mt. Washington. I'm taking part in the JDRF Ride because I’m up for a physical and mental challenge that I know will be the experience of a lifetime. And, the money I raise will change the lives of millions of people who struggle with the burden of type 1 diabetes (T1D) every day.

My nephew Super Zach, along with other family and friends, have been living with this autoimmune disease that adds a few more obstacles to having a normal life. Their struggles and victories made me want to support them and their families in the one way I enjoy: through bicycling. That's why I joined the My Ride program, in hopes that what I do can help those I know and love.
