John, who runs for Thornbury Running Club, was completing his final marathon of nine – each begining with a letter of his name. He has raised money for charity in each one and as we chatted he also explored all the other reasons he runs and the benefits it brings him.

It felt that his running connected him up to himself and others in so many ways. He is able to clear the stress of the day, connect with his friends, be present with his family and at the same time make a difference at a global level in raising money for causes that are dear to him.

On the Saturday 29th May 2010 a unique fundraising event will take place. At precisely 0930hrs Nick and three other riders will set off from Islington Green in North London and pedal their bicycles 1100km (700 miles) to the French Alpine town of Morzine Avoriaz. They hope to achieve this arduous journey in 8 days. However! There is a slight twist to the event. They will be riding on PASHLEY GUV'NOR vintage style 3 speed path racer bicycles and will also be dressed in replica vintage cycling clothing. It will be reminicent of a scene from an old Tour De France as they travel down roads, across cobbles and over mountains made famous by the worlds toughest bicycle race.

Nick first qualified as a Fitness Professional in 2005. He has since worked in the Fitness industry in France, Portugal and the UK. He now lives in Brighton and is the founder of Urbanfit.

On May 1st 2010 Mark will begin a 1,300 mile ultra endurance run through Holland, Belgium, France and Spain. The trip will take 8 weeks to complete and will consist of roughly 50 marathons in 56 days.

Mark is aiming to raise £25,000 for Headway Group, who provide support to people who have suffered a head injury or some other form of acquired brain injury such as a stroke.

A year after I started to run with Fi, she has a PB for half marathon and marathon and is lining up on the elite start of the London Marathon in two weeks time - a dream realised. Fiona is an inspiration, having started running from an aerobics background, ran her first half marathon in 1.57 - she returned this year to the same race - the Watford half marathon and ran 88 mins!
