I met Dave 6 years ago – he was a bike rep at the time and had been visiting Lawrence and Simon in the "Tri Store":http://www.thetristore.com/ – they were all going for a ‘working supper’ in Maxim's restaurant here in Eastbourne and as I was living with Simon and Lawrence at the time – so an honoury Tri store member - I was invited along. Within about 3 mins, Dave had pronounced me ‘mad'!
However he still chose to come and ask me for some guidance for his intrepid journey into an ironman triathlon with 4 months to prepare!
He had been the British downhill mountain bike champion and 2nd in the world championships in the 90s - a professional cyclist for 10 years at that time – so even though he had lost fitness when I met him, he did have a big background to draw on.
Dave and I became friends and so it was with sadness at saying goodbye to a friend, but happiness too, that he had set off on a new adventure in the States. His podcast tells his story now…
Dave was in the middle of a forest on Skype, so apologies that sound quality is not as clear as usual.
