SHOW NOTES
INTRO
Being a Christian is more than your sexual orientation or marital status
The Christian Call is to glorify God
ADVISE FOR RELATIONSHIPS
A lot of Churches are giving bad information
People message Caleb often asking for advice and thus alludes to the larger question of relationships in Christendom
THOUGHTS ON RELATIONSHIPS
Relationships are not your identity
The modern Church puts too much weight in relationships
“There is an issue in the Church of sexual preference being the identification of the individual, the idea of who you are having sex with robs you of your personal autonomy and calling to glorify God.”
Marriage is not about loving each other foremost, its about glorifying God
Society puts forth lies about what marriage is
Homosexual marriage is not actually marriage
Marriage about oneself is not actually marriage
Relationships are but a by-product of our love for God
If being a Christian is about glorifying God, then relationships don’t yet even fit into the picture
RELATIONSHIPS THAT DON’T LEAD TO SIN
Depending on what you are attracted to varies in the way that sin could be manifested
Relationships lead to sin when it does have the optimal aim of glorifying God
Marriage needs to aim to glorify God by being the reflection of Christ and the Church
WHY CAN’T HOMOSEXUALS MARRY WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF THE BIBLE?
Gender roles matter
Two men or two women cannot in any way reflect Christ and the Church because each gender is called to be the symbolic representation of Christ and the Church and since a male and female is required for the representation to embodied, homosexuality fails to meet the standard.
Marriages where men and women do not feel their gender-specific obligation are in sin
Heterosexual marriage without the commitment two God is sin
RELATIONSHIPS WITHOUT COMMITMENT LEAD TO DESTRUCTION
Heartbreak often occurs because everything that is supposed to happen in marriage occurred in the relationship without the commitment
Society has conditioned children to desire relationships over God
Relationships will fail if a person has not determined their calling to honor God
SINGLE PEOPLE NEED TO FIGURE THEIR SELF OUT FIRST
Singles need to enter into relationships with the mindset that Jesus is first and “what my ultimate aim is”
Singles need to determine their role in a relationship or marriage before they enter into one.
Ask your self, “Am I willing to die for my spouse as a man?”
“Am I willing to submit to my husband's leadership as a woman?”
CHRISTIAN MATURITY
Christian maturity does not necessarily depend on another person
Being alone can help you reflect, grow, and determine who you are
Caleb lost out on several years of spiritual maturity because he was preoccupied with sex and other distractions that come with relationships
FOR THE PERSON READY FOR MARRIAGE
Define what you think dating will help you achieve
Develop a trust for the person you want to marry
Is this man ready to die for me? Is this man noble? Does he care for his family?
Is this woman faithful? Is she honorable? Can this women raise my children?
How can we work to glorify God in our relationship?
We need to think that the relationships optimal aim is to glorify God and not make me feel
Know that being alone is hard but okay
God will use singleness for a purpose
You can honor the Lord alone and that is your calling
1 Cor 7:7 being single may be better since marriage comes with its own distractions (1 Cor 7:36)
Singleness is optimal because it gives you the opportunity to focus only on the Lord and the mission of Christ
CONCLUSION
Everything is based on relationships in this society and it’s a negative
Our focus needs to be on Jesus foremost and then let relationships be the by-product of our love for God.
Caleb thanks the people that listen and states that the community has changed his life. “It’s amazing the involvement of the key people in this community and I am grateful.”
