The Bass'yn Podcast

Welcome to episode 8 of The Bass’yn Podcast.

I’ve been blessed to know record producer/engineer Jimi Maroudas for 4 years now. In that time, we’ve worked together on music, spent countless hours communicating, and searched for the most productive paths to draw art out of ourselves and others.

Jimi has helped me discover a new level of musicianship and life. He’s worked with Mammal, The Living End, Kimbra, 28 Days, Pete Murray, Olivia Newton-John, Tim Rogers—the list goes on.

I loved this geeky, heartfelt, and personal chat, and I appreciate all the time I’ve spent with Jimi — it’s been like a gift from the gods.

I really hope you enjoy it.

I was walking my dogs in 2020 when I received an email to join Mammal. Amongst gigs and touring, we worked hard on the release of the new album The Penny Drop.

This has been one of the most involved and awesome projects I’ve ever had the privilege to be part of. In this episode, I take you sexy legends through my perception, workload, and my bass contribution to this album, creating and recording my parts out here in my home studio in The Basin.

It’s a song-by-song walk-through with some laughs, and I’m absolutely stoked with the final production.

I really hope you enjoy it.

I first met Dylan by chance around 2011 while playing a show in NSW, Australia. Straight away I knew he was an audio production wizard, so in the early days I chased him down (around 2018) to be the mix engineer for kadeturner.com.

In this episode, we talk about how we met and the process of creating innovative bass tones. We dive into Dylan’s career as a touring FOH sound engineer, and have a bloody good laugh along the way. We also break down what it takes to craft high-quality bass tones and think outside the box to make it happen.

This is such an epic podcast.

I really hope you enjoy it.

Do you find things when you’re looking for them??? Or do they just fall in your lap when you least expect it? That’s exactly what happened to me in 2020. A simple email changed the course of the last three years of my life.

I was out with my dogs on a daily bush-mission walk when I was asked to join Mammal. At first, I said no… then I said yes.

Working with record producer Jimi Maroudas has been a blessing. Recording our album The Penny Drop was an experience I bloody loved, and I learned so much along the way. What a journey life is.

I really hope you enjoy it.

Have you ever experienced anxiety???

This episode dives into what I went through playing on stage for many years after a life-changing motorcycle accident in 2013. Come with me as I take you through what my reality was like, what I had to do to survive, who I reached out to, and how we fought through something I didn’t believe was possible.

I bloody loved making this episode. Life is a short trip, and I know many face silent (or external) battles inside their minds. This was one of the craziest things I’ve undergone, and it shows just how amazing the human brain is.

Staying true to myself and knowing who I am are non-negotiables.

I really hope you enjoy it.

Have you ever been in a situation that stretched you to the point of life or death???

Come with me on a life-changing journey over the past 10 years. In this episode, I take you from South America back to Australia in what has been the most intense decade of my life.

On August 17, 2013, I hit a truck on my motorbike at 100 km/h in the mountains of Ecuador. My world and perception changed — and it’s never been the same since...

P.S. Rob is my close friend and the person I travelled with on this journey. I give him special thanks at the end of this podcast. I promise this one will take you on a ride...Life is a quick trip.

I really hope you enjoy it.

Thank you for the monster response to episode one of The Bass’yn Podcast.

In this episode I take you back to 2013 on a life-changing trip through Central and South America. We dive into the mighty “Mother Ayahuasca” and her teachings — a sacred practice used by native South Americans well before the Spanish arrived.

The Amazon jungle has always had a huge impact on me, shaping both my life and my music. This was an unforgettable experience, and I’m stoked to share it with you legends.

I really hope you enjoy it.
