Today featuring interview with Bruce Hood “Supersence: Why We Believe the Unbelievable”

Cognitive neuroscientist Bruce M. Hood explains that our “super sense” is something we’re born with, and how it is essential to the way we learn to understand our environment. Hood points out that we are born with brains designed to make sense of the world, and that sometimes leads to beliefs that go beyond any natural explanation. We are inclined from the start to think that there are unseen patterns, forces, and essences inhabiting our world. SUPERSENSE proves we shouldn’t belittle these supernatural beliefs, as they are a key element in binding us together as a society. Our “supersense” is undeniable, and it may be part of human nature to see ourselves connected to each other as this deeper level. A recent Gallup poll found that 75% of Americans believe in some form of supernatural phenomena, such as telepathy, ghosts, déjà vu, and past lives. Superstitious beliefs are common. Do you ever find yourself crossing your fingers, knocking on wood, avoiding walking under ladders, or stepping around black cats? Innate belief in things beyond what is natural or rational is a part of human nature. www.brucemhood.com
