Peter Ivey is an entrepreneur, writer/ author, speaker and a food security activist. Born and raised in Jamaica, he divides his time between the Caribbean island and New York.
As Founder and CEO of The Reggae Chefs®, a culinary services company that uniquely fuses Jamaican food and cultural expression through customized events, Ivey’s work as a chef and cultural ambassador of Jamaica has been featured across a variety of places including Forbes and the New York Daily News and has been archived in The National Library of Jamaica.
In 2017, Ivey founded Mission:FoodPossible (M:FP), a not-for-profit created to educate and feed the food insecure. As President of M:FP, Ivey is committed to empowering Caribbean people to thrive on the consumption of local foods or what he refers to as MVPs (Most Valuable Produce). In 2019, Forbes featured the work of the not-for-profit, saying that it “could be the answer to the world’s hunger problem.”
As a food activist and entrepreneur, Ivey believes in the value of empowerment at a grass roots level. The S3 Concept for Entrepreneurship was developed by Ivey to promote independence and self-reliance in young people in the Caribbean and Africa. He also conceived the Food Opportunities in Regenerative Culture (FORC) movement— a circular paradigm under which food systems stakeholders go one step beyond sustainability to help alleviate food insecurity.
Most recently, Ivey launched PIII Culinary Kits, the Caribbean’s first culinary kit for purpose-driven food industry professionals and students.
In March 2020, Ivey authored Coronavirus: Get Outta Here! As one of the first children’s books on coronavirus, the book has been included as one of UNICEF’s resources to help families during the pandemic. Ivey is the creator of Food Securi-Tales, a collection of children’s books about food security. The collection has been approved by Jamaica’s Ministry of Education for distribution to the nation’s primary school children. An avid writer, Ivey was a regular contributor to LOOP, the largest Caribbean news media platform.
As a regular speaker on entrepreneurship, social responsibility and food security, Ivey has spoken at events held by the United Nations, Future Food-Tech and the Good Food Fund (China) among others, as well as industry events such as The International Restaurant and Food Service Show and at various Universities and Colleges.
Ivey has been widely recognized for his work in promoting Caribbean culture and community development, having received the Certificate of Special (US) Congressional Recognition for “Outstanding and Invaluable Service to the Community,” The Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CACCI) “Business Visionary Award” and the “Business Innovation and Game Changer Award” from the Caribbean American Leadership Foundation.
Ivey’s vision is to use his entrepreneurship skills, knowledge and experience to empower youth through self-reliance and to help sustain the global community through projects aimed at eradicating poverty and hunger.
When not working, Peter is either traveling or spending time with his son, PJ.
