Story of the GBCF CO-OP:
Co-operatives are based on the values of self-help, self-responsibility, democracy, equality, equity, and solidarity. In the tradition of their founders, co-operative members believe in the ethical values of honesty, openness, social responsibility, and caring for others.
Like many consumer food coops in the United States today, the Great Basin Community Food Co-op began when a few people got together to create a business that would meet a mutual need: to increase community access to affordable, sustainable, and wholesome food that enriches the health of the Northern Nevada's environment and economy.
In 2005, the GBCFC began as a buyers' club relying exclusively on the volunteer efforts of motivated citizens. The buyers' club was closely associated with a cooperative CSA program that coordinated several regional farmers' produce into one weekly basket subscription for Northern Nevada households, known as the Great Basin Basket. Both the buyers' club and the Great Basin Basket grew quickly.
A small store-front opened on Wonder Street within a year of the initial community meetings. That store-front operated for over a year before moving to a slightly larger location on Plumas in 2008. Three years later in 2011 we carried out a member driven fundraising campaign to move the store for a third time into a much larger building in order to better meet the needs of its members. On February 11, 2012 we opened our doors at 240 Court St. Reno, NV 89501.
Since then we have won national awards for our steady growth as we serve the food needs of Northern Nevada. We do our best to stay ahead of the game, always looking to improve our food system through better nutrition, decreased waste streams, carbon sequestration, safe farming practices, and fair wages for farmers.
We believe in organic, local, single source clean food that is produced in a fair way for all involved.
Nicole Sallaberry and Dr. Ray chat about the need for The Great Basin Community Food CO-OP and importance of being able to support local farmers as well having as access to the nourishment that comes from local, organic produce.

Over her 14-years of experience, Kerry Sutherland has become a leading authority on lifestyle product PR, and has been instrumental in representing clients in numerous industries from travel, healthcare, and corporate to pet product brands and wine & spirits. She has represented clients across the globe, and she has the passport to prove it! Seeing gaps within large PR agency structure and culture, in 2012 she founded K. Sutherland PR with the desire to work hand-in-hand with emerging brands, raising their visibility by taking an individualized approach that is directed by their business goals and brand values. She is guided by her love and pas sion for the brands that K. Sutherland PR represents, along with the deep-rooted relationships with the media. When she's not strategizing with clients or conceptualizing a new campaign, Kerry can be found spending time with her family (most likely at their favorite weekend escape- Donner Lake in Truckee, California), tackling a home renovation project, or sipping wine (if we're being completely honest).
Kerry Sutherland joined Drs. Rick Swecker and Ray Daniels to discuss how she is connecting back to the Reno, NV community while creating genuine relationships through K. Sutherland Public Relations. She discusses her story, her values and how she is trying to serve our community to the highest level by supporting companies that she believes in. Kerry craves honest and open relationships with the clients she works to continue to cultivate the culture of Reno.

"Coffeebar is the fuel that propels you throughout your day. Inspired by the Italian coffeebar culture, we believe we are Hospitalians first, baristas and chefs second. Making people feel good is our M.O. Founded in Truckee, CA in 2010, Coffeebar was built off of over two decades of coffee industry knowledge. But at the end of the day, we're only as good as the next cup we make."
In this episode Dr. Ray Daniels discusses with Rachel Macintyre why the family of Coffee Bar has been created, along with why it's a MUST to stop by and experience the culture that is being expressed.

As our lead farmer, key planner, builder, and fix-everything-man on the farm, Prema would simply not exist as it does today without Zach's presence. He is the fire, the passion, and the lifeblood of our daily operations. It's been joked that while the plants certainly need the sun and water to thrive, they've also grown accustomed to feeding off of Zach's unending energy at the farm!
Amazingly, this is Zach's first time farming, ever. After spending six years traveling the world in his twenties, he returned to his home state with clear insight into the contribution he wanted to make. His connection to the energy of the land is uncommon, revealed clearly by his instincts farming it. You'll see Zach when you visit the farm, stop by our Farmers Market booth, or receive pretty much any of our deliveries. He's everywhere the farm is!

In June of 2016, Melissa acquired studio space on California Ave. and created the boutique healing oasis, Temple. She envisioned Temple Yoga as a place for stress management, community, and a living alter where your body is the inspiration for your devotion. She began studying yoga in 1999, took her first yoga training course in 2007, and began teaching full-time after the 9 week 500 hour course. A passion for attending training courses immersed and she hasn't stoped learning since. Melissa is dedicated to the Dharma of the path and considers her role as a Mother to be her greatest accomplishment in life. Her yoga instructor training includes over 2,000 hours of Yoga Teacher Training courses beginning with Bikram Yoga Training in 2007. Mel's enthusiasm for sharing yoga eventually led her to training in Bhakti Flow with Rusty Wells. She completed a 500-hour journey that continues with Janet Stone Yoga immersing through travel, India, South America, and many more sources of inspiration. Finding joy through teaching public yoga classes yet wanting to create community, she began We Are One Yoga Teacher Trainings in 2013. The teacher trainings are in-depth study modules exploring the many ways to embody the teachings of yoga. Her yoga classes are strong yet basic, sweaty and also cool, radiant and relaxing--an experience of yoga.

Chaz's healing practice can be defined as a dynamic and effective approach, resulting in release of stagnation, overwhelm, and old narratives for the purpose of bringing energetic systems back to a clear, refreshing vibration. His techniques allow others to release all that has been held onto and start with a clean and rejuvenated palate.
Chaz's path to study and practice energy healing arts started in 2011 while working as an electrician. After working with flowing electricity for several years, he became interested in using subtle energy fields as well as the physical energy fields to heal. He began with Quantum Touch and continued to study energy healing through a Bachelor's degree in Metaphysical Science from the University of Metaphysics, Sedona. Chaz is a certified metaphysical healing practitioner, and he holds a Ministerial License from the International Metaphysical Ministry.
As a Flow Artist, Chaz is a strong believer and practitioner of the healing properties of the flow arts, using props to bring forth a gentle and powerful flow to reflect what it is within, creating spatial awareness of the space around him as well as the space within him.
Energy, flow, and love are truly some of his favorite things! Chaz has always been a loving, kind, and compassionate human being since childhood. He strives to make all those around him comfortable, calm, and at peace within themselves!

Brian's martial arts instructor taught him since childhood that 'Kindness was the ultimate form of self-defense' and they were not training to just become a black belt in the arts, but a Kindness Ninja. A true Kindness Ninja, as he was taught, is a person that carries out an act of Kindness without the desire of seeking recognition.
Now Brian is on a mission to inspire crowds of Kindness Ninjas in schools across the country to ban together in solidarity to make a massive difference in the world. His infectious energy and positivity has earned him national media exposure on MTV, USA Today, & MSNBC. He has spoken to over 250,000 students across the country, collected over 300,000 pairs of shoes for needy children and families around the world, produced 2 award-winning humanitarian documentaries and has traveled to Kenya 9-times to carry out Global Acts of Kindness.
Brian's passion in life is to inspire youth, that every single person has the ability to make a difference in someone's life. No matter how rich, poor, or dysfunctional your world may be. . . everyone has the ability to impact someone's life in a positive way.
He is a person of action. He thrives on not being a speaker that takes the stage and talks for an hour and leaves. Rather, he aims to create movements of Kindness within each school he visits. He challenges each school to a massive 15 Days of Kindness challenge, school versus school, seeing who can make the biggest difference in the world. . . in just 15 days. Schools have noticed a decrease in bully related incidences after taking on Brian's 15 Days of Kindness challenge.
He has mastered the skill of motivating people to action. In addition to traveling the country speaking to students, he also works with school counselors, principals and teachers, equipping them with ideas, resources, and tactics to inspire a Kinder culture within their school.
Brian currently resides in Reno, Nevada with his wife and 1 year-old baby girl. . . who is already starting to Karate Chop everything in sight.
