Perry and Shawna show us the beauty of Messiah Jesus:  The prophecies fulfilled about him, how he gets us and helps us and how he brings meaning to everything that happens to us, especially the things we don’t understand. 

 

So first, Louis Lapides, a Jewish man was walking to campus in NYC when he was rocked by the challenge of a street preacher:   “Just read the Old Testament and ask the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob the God of Israel to show you if Jesus is the Messiah because he is your Messiah.”  Louis read it.  The prophecies pointed uncannily to Jesus.  He first thought was that Christians had changed the message of the Old Testament.  So he asked his stepmother for a Hebrew bible.  Then he was even more shocked.

 

Next we have fun with this:  If you could only have one indulgence this Christmas what would it be?  This ends up being a chaotic conversation about egg nog. : ) Then a conversation about God becoming one of us.  He gets us.  Jesus experienced temptation, poverty, frustration, disappointment, rejection, sorrow, ridicule, loneliness and more.  He empathizes with us and because he’s God he can help us.  With this Perry shares how Jesus poured peace over his dad after his dad poured out the grief of losing his bride of 62 years.  

 

And finally, there are over 100 prophecies of the Messiah in the Old Testament and Jesus of Nazareth fits them beautifully.  But maybe Jesus fulfilled them by chance?  What are the odds?  The probability of just eight prophecies being fulfilled by Jesus is one chance in 100 million billion.  He really is Messiah.  And that means we don’t live in a universe of chance.  It means that when unexplainable things happen to us that God will take every excruciating thing and turn it to gold.
