Welcome to The Penalty Box with Darby Prescott, where I'll be talking about recent updates and all your latest news and sports and the media. With sports, we're gonna get a busy week.
This week. We can talk about the NBA playoff of the NBA draft, then I shall playoff. And then there's a couple of other topics. If we have enough time we'll try to get to, we will be covering one of the topics I briefly mentioned on our regular Bus Boys podcast, which hopefully will have up. But with the Penalty Box going forward here on In, I'll be permanently for the time being.
I guess it's our permanent for the time being, but for the time being, I will be doing the Penalty Box every week, and it'll be a solo show. So we'll see what happens, and I'm gonna try to do my best doing this one-man show gig. But we'll start off with the NBA playoffs and we had a hell of a roller Coast arrived last night when we saw the Phoenix Sun. The Fenix Suns come up with a shocking win over shocking win over the Los Angeles Clippers, where DeAndre Ayton hit a game-winning dunk Ali from Jay Crowder for the win, and this game was electric all the way through.
It was fun to watch and I thoroughly enjoyed this game.
It's a lot of things to take into account with this. Paul George Smith two very clutch free throws at the end of the game, which caused him to look like a very, very rough night for him after he is playing well. You to police 6, 6 and six. They're going to need more out of him for them to accomplish more. Reggie Jackson had a solid game were 19, 5 and three, but it tells a comparison to the other games where he was dropping 25 or more regularly.
Demarcus Cousins was a nonfactor outside of Cameron pain blocking and embarrassing him in front of everyone. Rondo played big and small minutes. Patrick Beverly was irrelevant and like he always usually is, I get to he's out there to play defense and Hound guys, but at this point he's not even doing that well anymore, and he gives you little to nothing on offense. He made 2 3 pointers for six points and 26 minutes to play. Like Canard played solid.
He had 10 points off the bench. He continues to be him, and Terrence Man continued to be a solid tandem off the bench for them. I think they should probably play a little more. Avan Zubac was actually solid in this footing of 14 and 11, and then Marcus Morris was nowhere to be found with seven in 5 and 25 minutes play. If you go over to the Phoenix Sons, Michael brings me a clutch three towards the end, but he was redeemed by DeAndre eight on who played phenomenally 24 points, 14 rebound.
The guy was an animal in the pain. Devon Booker had 20 points, four rebounds, 5 assist. A little underwhelming compared to what we've been privileged to see of late. Cameron Pain. Goodness gracious.
This guy was the X Factor. This guy was the reason why they won this game. Thunderous rejection on the Marcus Cousins even told DeMarcus Cousins to quote Unquote, get that shit out of there and then stared him down. Dario Charge Actually, he's been only playing around 10 minutes a game, but he got 13 and put up 11 points, which is solid. I will say this, I think the Sons are going to take this series of quaint doesn't come back.
This series could be over in five or dare I say Suns and four sons and four. And another thing I've learned from watching it a lot this playoff basketball is I've learned that you never, ever want to fight or throw hands with Phoenix Suns players, not players, but fans. The ass. Whooping that? The Sons and for God.
Then and then we had another bra that happened between Clipper and Sons. Fans were Clipper fans got the shit beat out of them to put it nicely. Like the Sun fans beat the Holy hell out of them. Now, granted, the Clipper fans were the first ones to throw the first punch, but they did not finish the fight very well. Just like in this game, in this game, the Clippers.
I thought I had every opportunity to win this game and just let it squander away. This brings me on to my next series, which we're going to talk about, which is the Atlanta Hawks. And I will say this, I think the Sun's win this four or 5 games unless Quad line comes back and if he doesn't come back, it's over. It's over. I strongly feel this series is over.
Let's look over at the other match. We're going to have an NBA. But before we do that, we're going to talk about the Hawks and the 70 Sixers and how the Hawks epically came back in one in 7 games. Kevin heard her played out of his day of mind. It was just an absolute clutch shooter throughout the entire game.
Trading struggled heavily, but he didn't make some clutch baskets towards the end of the game. And Ben Simmons and Joel indeed just do not know what to do. As far as like having a high basketball acute, there was numerous times when Ben Simmons had the opportunity to dump the ball or score on baskets or even play even an ounce of aggression and he would pass it up because he is terrified to shoot the ball and he's terrified to have shoot free throws. Now, granted, the guy had the worst free three percentage I believe in NBA history on the minimum of I think with I think it's a minimum of 53 Thurs he took care of the press or not 25.
I think it as the per season, he has the record for lowest 300 percentage.
This guy has gotten into his own head so bad and he's been gotten to where he listens to so many of the other sports commentators telling him how bad of a shooter he is. He's starting to completely believe that. Yeah, I'm just a shitty shooter and I'm never going to recover. And it showed completely in this game. And I believe he only had five points, which was an embarrassing display, especially for someone that's an All Star and a man that's expected to be A-1-2 punch for a franchise team, maybe even A-1-2 or three punch.
And the other guy there to buy Terrace. Where have you been at? What the hell happened? This was a guy I thought had the room to have the most growth potential because I'd like to buy a terrorist as a player. The sad thing is that he reminds me so much of Tim Thomas.
The guy has the perfect physique, the perfect game, the perfect shot, the perfect amount of ability of skill to be in a like scar and the League. He just doesn't want to or just hasn't hit that pinnacle. And maybe he never will. I hope he does. As a Pistons fan, I really enjoyed Tobias Hears when he played for the Pistons.
I thought that it was a travesty that he got traded for that ALPA Trash contract for Blake Griffin. But moving on the Bucks and the Hulk after phenomenally taking the series of the 70 Sixers and the Bucks shocking everybody, beating the net, ruining everybody's bracket. Who had the Hawks and books in the conference finals. Yeah, me neither. But I will say this with all these teams, all these new teams and new faces in the conference finals, and with the exception of Clippers, because you got Paul George, who's been established for a while saying for Leonard, this has been the most exciting playoffs I've ever seen.
And the ratings for the NBA dear this post season are significantly higher than they have been in the past couple of years because they're establishing new superstars. They're promoting and building the superstars, which is what they need with the old guard starting to age out like your Chris Paul's. Your LeBron James is these guys are starting to age out. No, I'm not saying that LeBron or Chris Paul are done. I'd be an idiot say that.
But we're starting to see the slight decline and seeing the other talent starting to catch up, the younger guys starting to catch up. But in this following series, the bugs have size. The Hulk could shoot the lights out. I don't I think the Bucks have a more talented came and they're more well equipped to win. But I think the Hulk have better closures than who I trust more at the end of a Coast game, I would rather have, and this is probably going to probably be a cold take in the future.
But in the final moments of a game, I would rather have Tray Young, John Collins, Kevin Herder, Clint Capello over ones who I've set numerous times is not a close. A guy can win the into games. I've said that for a while now that he's just not ill-equipped to do that due to his jumper not being good enough and his basketball IQ I've always been critical of, but I will say that I think the Middleton is a great closer and Middleton is a guy that will be the egg factor for the Buck.
And and if Brooke Lopez can knock down three, the Box are an incredibly tough team to beat no matter who they're plan. But I'm going to go over my heart on this, and I'm going to say that the Hawks like call and steal their way all the way to the NBA Finals, which will be a very incredible historic run for them, especially with finishing with 20 winds last year and one that being touted as one of the worst teams in the League and how good they've been this year.
The progress they've made has just been simply phenomenal. I believe in them, and I think that they can get to that next level. And I don't think they're going to win in the Finals. I think regardless of what happens, I'm picking the Phoenix Sons to win the NBA Finals. And regardless of what happens, I don't see any of these teams remaining capable of beating the Suns and a seven-game series.
You got to think within a week, Chris Paul is gonna be back and the Sun will be back at full strength, which I think at that point that makes them unbeatable even against the Buffs, the Hawks or the Clippers. So I'm picking the Sons to win, but I'm gonna pick this.
