CABAS

CABAS was mentioned in this episode, but Paulie misspoke the acronym.  CABAS refers to the Comprehensive Application of Behavior Analysis to Schooling (https://www.cabasschools.org) 

On this episode Paulie and Billy talk about the science behind breaking old habits, creating new ones, and how to make them last. Paulie and Billy both share real world examples of how habits are formed. They talk about how drinking can become a slippery slop as well as why some perceived punishers are actually more aversive rather than punishing which leads to a stronger desire to form the appropriate habits faster. For example, Paulie talks about learning how to fight; most people would consider getting hit in the face a punisher but for him that developed grit that fueled him to get better leading to not getting hit in the face so often.

In this Episode, Operants Magazine's Editor-in-Chief David Roth breaks the science of human behavior down into practical terms for anybody to understand.  In addition, David shares insight from a Skinnerian lens about mindfulness and even drops some nuggets about Dr. Skinner's perspective on elements of psychoanalysis (Freud) like the id, ego, and superego.  I learned some interesting facts.  Don't miss this one!

On today's episode we talk with Dr. Tyra Sellers about how to be a better supervisor.   She  is a co-author of Building and Sustaining Meaningful and Effective Relationships as a Supervisor and Mentor and the Director of Ethics at the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.  We discuss the importance of quality supervision, how to become a competent supervisor, and how to apply behavior analytic principles to supervision.
