In the scripture, the North represents trials.  Your promotion comes from the trials, from you learning how to walk with God through contradictions. David was going through a contradiction. He had opportuties to promote himself, but he would not do it, he waited on the Lord. Psalm 32:8 says, "I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go, I will guide you with my eye." You need to obey God out of your heart. God wants you to strengthen yourself in Him.

There is nothing better for me that I should speadily escape to the land of the Philistines, and Saul will despair of me to seek me anymore in any part of Israel so I shall escape out of his hands." David was not supposed to do that, he was in the wrong place for the wrong reason. But God's grace still covered him. God had wanted to ressurect the promise in his life, but David was not at the place of ressurection, instead he went to Ziklag and was at the place of judment.

In 1 Samuel 30:1 it speaks about David being in Ziklag on the third day.  David found himself at Ziklag and at that time the Amalekites had attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire.  The Amalekites had taken captive the women and those that were there, wives sons and daughters and carried them away and left Ziklag burned.  When David and his men came to the city their wives, sons and daughters were gone and had been taken captive. 

Even in all this, David chose to be strong. He strengthened himself in the Lord. He chose to be strong in the Lord. Pastor Brad teaches about what we have available to us to be strong in the Lord.
