Nature has always been spiritually grounding for singer-songwriter and guitarist Griff Peters. A few years ago, when he was mired in a heart-wrenching personal struggle, Griff went out to the beach and sat down on a rock formation where he asked himself this question: if he was told he had a year to live, what would he do?

Jimmy Ryan is a composer, producer, arranger, and author.  His career has spanned sixty-three years and is still going strong, having recently performed at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, 2022 Induction Ceremony with triple Grammy winner, Olivia Rodrigo to inaugurate his long-time friend and former bandmate, Carly Simon. 

 

His college band, The Critters had their first top forty hit, “Younger Girl” and landed three charting albums and two more top forty hits, “Mr. Dieingly Sad” and “Don’t Let The Rain Fall Down on Me.”

 

Jimmy played on Carly Simons’ Anticipation album, and went on to work on most of Carly’s future albums and continues to work with her to this day. He was the guitar soloist on almost all of Carly’s hits, the most memorable being “You’re So Vain,” and the Academy Award-winning song of the year from the movie, Working Girl, “Let The River Run.”  On Carly Simon sessions, he has recorded/collaborated with major artists including Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Luther Vandross, James Taylor and many more, earning him seven RIAA Certified Platinum Records/CDs.

 

Jimmy has recorded with numerous artists including Cat Stevens, John Entwistle of the Who, Elton John & Kiki Dee, Tommy James, Jimmy Webb, The Doors, Andy Williams, Martha Reeves, and Rod Stewart.  Jimmy played guitar on Andy Williams’ #1hit “Solitaire”. 

 

Jimmy created the theme for NBC News that ran nationwide from 2003 to 2009 on many local NBC stations. In 2005, he wrote the themes and background music for all of the CNBC financial shows that aired on six continents worldwide, many of which are still running to this day.  Jimmy also scored the nationwide launch campaign for MSNBC. In 2020, Jimmy composed the music for The News With Shepard Smith on CNBC.

 

Jimmy has also written music for The Discovery Channel, Lifetime, USA Network, and PBS scoring the Nova movie of the year, The Pluto Files – with Neil deGrasse Tyson. In collaboration with the History Channel, he composed music for major exhibitions at the Smithsonian Institution. Jimmy has also composed, arranged, and produced music for over 500 radio and TV commercials for clients including Doritos, McDonald’s, IBM, Ford, Nikon, Pizza Hut, Budweiser, Chevy, Mennen, Palmolive, Hess, Hasbro, Downy, Clearasil, Arby’s, Coke, Diet Coke, Modells and more.

Pascal VIGNE is a preeminent French guitar player, composer, producer, and the founder of the guitar-oriented trio Triple FX. His compositions reflect years of research and experimentation. His music is characterized by original themes, uncommon grooves, a great sense of musicality, and outstanding technique. Whatever genre he plays, you can recognize his guitar style instantly: his playing is centered around deep and emotional melodies. 

His has released many albums, performed in hundreds of concerts, clinics, demonstrations and has played international music shows like (NAMM, Musikmesse…). 

Pascal teaches in different European music schools and has had students from all over the world. He also makes free video lessons for his Youtube channel and for imusicschool.com, and is an international demonstrator for Ibanez guitars, DV Mark amps and Zoom effects.

In Spanish, CONTRALUZ means backlight.  This exciting album titled CONTRALUZ is an invitation to hold our own truths and beliefs up to a backlight that produces new perspectives from every vantage point.  In the same way that new perspectives warrant unfolding possibilities, Fabio Rojas and Kevin Harris believe that this powerful project could be described as a modern symphony also continually unfolding. Contraluz is an invitation to creatively shift one's views to see an alternative picture of reality or truth. 

 

Therefore, when we change our perspective we see a wider spectrum of viewpoints that were not initially perceived at a single glance. And as a result, we gain a broader understanding of ourselves and society. Harris and Rojas seek to explore these possibilities as a duo to carry a message of purpose and hope.  This is Contraluz.

Since arriving to the US , Rojas has performed with artists such as Terri Lyne Carrington, Geri Allen, Greg Osby Band, Bill Pierce, Sean Jones, Kevin Harris, John Lockwood, Nino de los Reyes, Manuel Valera, Paula Champion, Mike Rodriguez, Pablo Menares, Jason Palmer, Jon Cowherd, Regina Carter, Rachel Z Hakim, David Bixler, Gregg August and in venues such as SXSW, Daegu Jazz Festival, Smoke Jazz Club, Lincoln Center, BU Agganis Arena, Boston Symphony Hall, Scullers Jazz Club, MusikFest, NAMM, RIFF, among many others.

Fabio earned his Bachelor of Music with a Dual Major in Performance and Professional Music at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, thanks to a scholarship and extreme hard work. There he had the honor of being mentored by Terri Lyne Carrington and Kim Plainfield. Right after graduating he was hired as a staff member in this institution.

Besides performing and composing music for films and commercials, Rojas also educates and is currently part of the Faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music. “Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent.” – Victor Hugo. Through music you can express greater emotions, ones that you cannot define with words. As an artist, this is what Fabio strives for and continues to do through his work.

Before moving to the US, Rojas studied jazz performance at UNEARTE, previously called IUDEM (Instituto Universitario de Estudios Musicales) while giving lessons of drum set in the Taller de Jazz Caracas and Concert Percussion in the Colegio/Conservatorio Emil Friedman. Fabio prior to this also studied at the Colegio Emil Friedman. Besides his studies he was working with acclaimed Venezuelan musicians . While in Venezuela Fabio studied with Diego Maldonado.

French pianist, composer, producer and educator Cédric Hanriot has worked with many jazz legends. He recorded piano and keyboards on the Grammy Winning album "Beautiful Life" by singer Dianne Reeves, alongside Robert Glasper and Esperanza Spalding. He has also collaborated with Herbie Hancock, Terri Lyne Carrington, and Donny McCaslin.

Having played as a sideman and leader on many tours throughout the world, he has been able to sharpen his unique style that incorporates acoustic elements (acoustic piano, prepared piano) as well as electronic elements (vocoder, sound design, prepared piano).

Joe Deninzon has been hailed by critics as “The Jimi Hendrix of the Violin,” because of his innovative style on seven-string electric violin. Joe has worked with The Who, 50 Cent, Sheryl Crow, Bruce Springsteen, Phoebe Snow, Everclear, Ritchie Blackmore, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, Robert Bonfiglio, Les Paul, and as a soloist with the NY City Ballet and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Joe is the lead singer and electric violinist for the progressive rock band, Stratospheerius, which has released five critically acclaimed CD’s. A BMI Jazz Composer’s grant recipient and winner of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, he has written over 200 string quartets, solo pieces for violinist Rachel Barton Pine, and sits on the Board of Advisors for Composer’s Now. In 2015, Joe premiered his “Concerto for Seven String Electric Violin and Orchestra” with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Douglas Droste.

His original music has been featured on CMT, MTV, VH1, Comedy Central, National Geographic, the Travel Channel, the History Channel, and the Will Ferrell/ Adam McKay- produced film “Virginity Hit.”

Joe is also a member of the Sweet Plantain String Quartet, which combines Latin Jazz with hip-hop and Classical music, and has toured throughout Europe and the U.S. Joe has also released a CD with his Acoustic Jazz Trio, titled “Exuberance.”

As an educator, Joe is a faculty member at the New Jersey City University Multi-Style strings program. He has taught at Mark O’Connor’s String Camp and Mark Wood’s Rock Orchestra Camp, and made repeated appearances performing at the Grand Canyon Music Festival, where he co-founded the Grand Canyon School of Rock in 2006, an annual program for local high school students. He regularly travels as a clinician and has contributed articles to Strings, Downbeat, and Making Music Magazine. In 2012, Joe wrote a book on electric violin techniques for Mel Bay Publications, entitled Plugging In. Joe has made the Downbeat Critic’s pole for jazz/rock violin, and Chris Haigh’s book, Discovering Rock Violin lists one of Joe’s recorded solos among the “Top 20 greatest rock violin solos of all time.”

Joe holds Bachelor’s degrees in Violin Performance and Jazz Violin from Indiana University and a Master’s in Jazz/Commercial violin from Manhattan School of Music.

Chris Christodoulou is a composer who spends most of his time writing music, the rest of his time reading (or as he likes to say “consuming dead trees”, and the rest of the rest of his time resting.

Chris’ work on the music for the video game “Risk of Rain 2” is hailed by more than a few gamers as their favorite video game sound tracks of all time.

#46 Kevin Harris — Piano | Thought Before Action

Kevin Harris plays a distinctive combination of traditional and contemporary music that seeks to celebrate the musical influences of Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis intersecting with J.S. Bach, Scott Joplin, and the folkloric African rhythms of the Caribbean. 

 

DownBeat Magazine writes that “Harris' compositions deal with themes of strength, love, courage, and self-awareness. It's a heavy task he's set up for himself, and he meets the challenge gracefully.” 

 

In 2020 he was nominated by the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum to be a Neighborhood Salon Luminary with the goal to exchange creative ideas and dialogue with Boston’s most innovative and thoughtful luminaries, fostering collaborations and artistic networks while shaping Gardner Museum programming. 

 

He is currently on faculty at Berklee College of Music and he is also a MIT-affiliated artist. Harris thrives on a courageously playful style of communication in music. A style, in his opinion, that requires a very special and sincere habit of listening and an equally patient endeavor to express oneself enthusiastically. He hopes that his performances will always inspire the audience to walk away with a sense of joyful connectedness and community. "Participation,” Harris says, "is what keeps our souls alive.
