Mom and daughter duo, Linda & Tina have been fostering through SAFY for decades, knowing that fostering is a long term investment into our community.

Tina says, "These kids need you. You're going to need these kids one day, because as they grow older they're going to take care of us. So I want to show them, 'Hey, I'm going to take care of you now, but this is how you take care of your kids. And then your parents, and the older people in the community'. I'm just trying to help one kid at a time."

Mary began her fostering journey through SAFY, and is so grateful for their continued support as they now have four precious girls in their home, two of which have been adopted! 

With medically fragile children, Mary & her family know this is an opportunity for love and hope to shine through the lives of each of their daughters each day.

 When she envisions Christmas morning, she envisions the magic that will happen that morning.

"It's us together, and I can't believe we have four precious little ones in our home. When I look at them, even if they don't look like me, they all represent actually four mothers out there. They are of me, and I am of them, and we are intricately connected. I can't picture my life apart from foster care, because of the ones who have come into our homes through foster care."

Lexi is a true joy to anyone who has the opportunity to meet her! 

Her love for children is evident in the way she shares her home with an in-home daycare, as well as the foster children who she supports in every way.

SAFY of Indiana has walked with Lexi from the beginning, and she says, "SAFY has taught us so much compassion and flexibility and how easy it is to love beyond biology. Our home is so much fuller, not just with noise and toys, but with meaning."

Thank you to Zolman's Best One Tire & Auto Care for providing $750 in auto care so that Lexi can upkeep her transit van for the children in her daycare, but for also taking care of the future foster children she excitedly anticipates!

Lea's heart for fostering began when she was just in elementary school knowing that she wanted to make a difference in the life of a child. Knowing she was called to help children, she became a teacher in Mishawaka, and it was a student of her very own that introduced Lea to becoming a foster mom! 

Through SAFY, her questions were answered, and she jumped right in to the licensing process.

"I do think I have moments, you know when they're in your house, and the big moments for me is when you get to see them be a kid. Where they let their walls down, that's when I have those moments,  of like, "Ok, wow this is impacting them positively."

While the future is uncertain with every case, Lea is certain that this process has taught her invaluable life lessons.  

"I will forever cherish it,  it's taught me so much about myself. It's helped me grow as a person, as an individual, and I just know that I will never regret having done it." .

Local businessman Collin, had seen a local viral truck on social media, and instead of sharing the post for reactions, he TOOK action and started a GoFundme so that South Bend local, Mo, could find a new ride. 

Within 30 hours Michiana had raised over $7,000 for Mo! 

"There are trucks that work, and there are working trucks. This is a truck that works." 

Now Mo can find a vehicle while Collin promises to take care of Mo's further expenses, feeling the pull to give back, just as his own Grandpa did.

Koelle and her husband both knew that they wanted to become a foster family and provide a special, safe, and loving environment for the placements they would welcome into their home and their hearts. 

"You can see that little soul in there trying to get out. Trying to be themselves, and how can you not want to nurture that? That is amazing. And when you get a glimpse of that, I want that. I want to help that person come out and come to life."

Alexa and Jeremy share their fostering journey.

"Honestly, just seeing the change in the kids. From that time when they come into your house and they're just scared, they're closed off, they don't know what's going on. And then at a certain point you get to see their genuine smile, and then they're just happy. Whatever else is going on in your day, everything is good at that point."
