The Best of The 'X' Zone Radio/TV Show with Rob McConnell

John Kenneth Press was born on May 22nd, 1964. His parents were hippies of a sort. For one thing they named him after John F. Kennedy who had been shot six months before his birth. He grew up in Venice Beach and Santa Monica California. His parents participated in the divorce trend when he was eleven. This caused his young life to sputter a bit. We can see from the biography so far that the greater trends of society are not impersonal. Before and after graduating from high school, John played music in the Los Angeles punk rock scene. He eventually played with members of Sonic Youth, Red Cross and Nirvana. These were, however, short lived experiences. After completing a solo recording in which he played all of the instruments Press traveled for a year and a half. Visiting Europe, West Africa, Israel and Egypt made quite an impression on him. He lived with Muslim cults, saw great art, and was turned rightward politically. Upon returning to Los Angeles he joined the famed cult glam group the Groovie Ghoulies. But this short stay was interrupted when he moved to San Jose to pursue a degree in psychology and two teaching credentials. He had adopted, at this point, a love of capitalism, which was soon to be nearly entirely reversed. - To Listen To 'X' Zone Archives Go To www.xzonepodcast.com

In many ways, Arbatel is unique among texts on magic. Unlike the vast majority of writings, it is clear, concise, and elegantly written. The practical instructions are straightforward and undemanding. When it first appeared in 1575, it attracted the attention of people with a surprisingly broad range of agendas, including some of the finest minds of the time. Often quoted and reprinted, both praised and condemned, its impact on western esoteric philosophy has been called "overwhelming." Arbatel's magic is full of wonder and free from the sinister elements usually associated with texts on the subject. But it is about more than magic; filled with gnomic wisdom, it urges us to help our neighbors, be positive and grateful, and use time wisely. Above all, it teaches us to pay attention, looking for the wondrous and miraculous. In fact, to the author this virtually defines the magus. Included are illustrations, bibliography, index, and original Latin text. As a result of a life-long fascination and years of study into the question of why the Holocaust happened, Gabriel Wilensky used his technical background as an award-winning veteran of the computer software industry to methodically research and write "Six Million Crucifixions: How Christian Teachings About Jews Paved the Road to the Holocaust." The final result is a well-structured and hard-hitting book that presents historical information with polemical conclusions.

Thanks to bestselling books such as Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code and blockbuster films like Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, in which they are depicted as heroic guardians of the Holy Grail, the Knights Templar of the Middle Ages have long captivated the public's imagination. The Knights Templar were a Christian military order formed in the 12th Century, partly to help defend the Holy Land from Muslim conquest, or so it has long been accepted by scholars. Author and historian Dr. Eugene Stovall believes, however, that there is evidence to support the possibility that the Knights Templar existed much earlier than is popularly believed. In fact, he says the Knights may have been active as early as the 1st Century A.D., at the time of the First Jewish- Roman War and the Fall of the Temple in Jerusalem. On your show, Dr. Stovall will share fascinating facts about these often-misunderstood soldiers of fortune, along with insight into what motivated their religious fanaticism. Eugene Stovall is the author of THE IDUMEAN COVENANT: A Novel of the Fall of Jerusalem, in addition to Blood and Brotherhood and Frank Yerby: A Victim's Guilt. A native of Oakland, California, Dr. Stovall received his Ph.D. in political theory from the University of California, Berkeley
