An arrow explodes through the eye of a cavernous skull, exposing a wound that bleeds a beautiful bouquet of flowers. A butterfly perches on the arrow, spreads it’s wings and pollenates the air with its effervescent majesty. As the arrow sinks deeper into the skull and the flowers bloom in an incandescent splendor, at the top of the skull, a tampon appears adorning it like a crown and the image disappears…this is where Gary Villarreal wants you and his art to meet. This week, The Beta Bro’s take a deep dive into the fantastical mind of one of our favorite artists and guests: Gary Villarreal. We talk about his creative process and his upcoming book of sketches available for purchase on his website.

As we face these unprecedented times, we know that as men of color, as entertainers, as humans, The Beta Report has an obligation to stand in solidarity with our African-American and black brothers and sisters who are being unjustly murdered and mistreated in our country. As a team, The Beta Report wants to use our “language” and our platform, to measure, value and acknowledge the lives that are afflicted with the pain and terror that unfortunately plague black lives on a daily basis. We understand that it is important to talk about these issues and to continue to shed light on them as well.

So, as we pause from our usual escapism, today, we choose to be present and talk about the systematic inequity that continues to take hold of our country.

“ We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” -Toni Morrison.

The Beta Vault has briefly closed its doors for this week to make way for another Beta-ford contraption: a Time Traveling Hot Tub Beta Machine! The Boys also discuss TBR’s Best Time Travel Movies and Movie moments. Will your choice make the list? Listen in to find out.

It’s time to sharpen your swords and comb your bigote as The Beta Report swashbuckles it’s way through the California country side to talk about a real hidden gem: The Mask of Zorro. Never before has The Beta Report been more macho, suave or debonair than on this week’s episode with special guest and friend of the show: John Hernandez! Join The Beta Boys as they chop things up and discuss the legend of the Mexican Batman and the magnetic allure of the man, the myth, the macho: Antonio Banderas.

Again, The Beta Vault has been demak’d wide open as we continue our classic movie marathon for the month of May.
