Why should a church have elders? What are the qualifications for deacons? How should the church operate? These are just a few of the issues that Paul addresses in his first letter to Timothy. To protect the Ephesian church from false teachers, Paul writes the letter of 1 Timothy in order to instruct the church concerning their leadership structure, beliefs, and behavior. His words are still just as relevant to the church today.
