032 – Faith is like baking a cake. If you only read the recipe, it doesn't do you much good.
Here's a modern day parable about the importance of living our faith instead of just reading books about how to be more faithful.
Imagine a mom who promises her kids she'll make a cake but spends way too much time hunting down the perfect recipe but never baking the cake.
How would you feel if you were one of her kids? Pretty bummed out, right?
The Bible says, "Faith without works is dead." (James 2:20) This episode helps us take an honest look at ourselves in the mirror and have a little fun in the process.
Sometimes we may feel we don't have enough faith and repeat what Jesus's disciples said, "Lord, increase our faith." But it's really a matter of using the faith we already have, even if it's only two mites worth.
And did I mention cake? Check out the shownotes page for my mom's recipe for my favorite when I was a kid. It's nothing fancy, just good old fashioned buttermilk pound cake. Yummmm!
If you make it, let me know.
BTW: This parable was originally a blog post. If you'd like to read it, check out The Parable of the Unbaked Cake.

Blessings to you,

031 – Has anyone ever tried to get you to do something God told you not to do?
This happens way too often. It's so important to stay faithful to what God tells us to do. but sometimes it's hard.
In this episode, I retell the story of the prophet from I Kings, Chapter 13, who obeyed God until he believed what another prophet said instead of talking to God about it.
And there were consequences.
Here are some questions I talk about this week:

030 – Isn't it time to quit defining yourself as either superior or inferior to other people?
I used to have a serious inferiority complex. Funny thing though, at the same time, I also had a superiority complex. I was pretty insecure.
In today's episode, I discuss a couple of experiences that taught me the importance of seeing all God's children in the light of spiritual equality. In the process I had to eat big piece of humble pie.
This literally saved my life. I would have probably been broadsided by an 18-wheeler running a red light if God hadn't shown me my equality to someone I thought was better than me.
We are all different and have unique gifts and talents. But that doesn't make us more or less important in the eyes of God.
I hope you enjoy this week's episode. Please let me know if there are any aha moments in your life when you realized you don't need to compare yourself to others.

029 – Can our prayers heal like Jesus did?
The Bible makes that promise, but sometimes when we pray, we're not healed. Does that mean it's God's will we weren't healed?
In this week's episode I talk about this topic and explore some of the reasons our prayers for healing may not be answered the way we want. I firmly believe it is always God's will that we are healed, but sometimes we don't go far enough in our prayers

028 - What if you had a big debt due tomorrow and no money in the bank?
Remember when a widow came to Elisha the prophet with this exact problem. He asked her, "What do you have in the house?" All she had was a pot of oil.
It turns out, this was the solution. The widow trusted Elisha. She took action with the little she had and it was multiplied beyond her wildest imagination. You can find this story in 2nd Kings, chapter 4.
Sometime we are like Elisha and people come to us for help. Do we respond with our human opinions and a judgmental attitude, or do we respond with compassion?
Sometimes we are like the widow and are desperate for a solution. Do we go to a spiritual mentor for help or try to figure everything out by ourselves without turning to God?
What to do when you're homebound by corona virus
What do you have in your house? What do you have in your heart? It's important to know what resources we have and use them to the best of our abilities. God will pour out a blessing when we do.

027 – Jesus' "Parable of the Sower" has more than one meaning
It's not just about Jesus preaching the gospel. It's also about where and what kind of seeds of faith we plant in our hearts and our lives.
In this episode I talk about how our faith is like a seed:

What if you had been in in the room when Jesus appeared to his disciples after the resurrection? How would you act? How would it change your life?

025 – What is the best way to prepare our hearts for Easter?
When we take the time to get ready spiritually for the significance of the resurrection in our lives, we get a deeper sense of what Easter is all about.
In this week's episode, I explore the time Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead as a way to get us ready for Easter.

024 – Have you ever thanked God before He heals or blesses you?
Usually we thank God after something good happens. And that's important. But gratitude before the solution appears is a powerful prayer.
In today's episode, I share some ideas about why "gratitude in advance" is so important and you can add this powerful tool to your spiritual tool box. You'll learn about:

023 – How did Jesus pray? Can we pray like he did?
Yes. Jesus expected us to follow his example in everything he did, including our prayers.
In this episode, I present the first installment of an occasional series: How to Pray Like Jesus. The focus this time is on one of the very specific ways Jesus prayed, which I call the "prayer of rebuke."
