Valentine is a helpdesk support specialist in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) in Canada’s Ontario Province. He learned crucial skills while transitioning into tech by becoming self-taught.
During the ice breakers, I found out the nickname his dad gave him, some of his interesting hobbies including a new one he wants to get into this year, the fact that he’s an evening person, how he relaxes at the end of a long day, and lots more.
We spoke about how cybercriminals eventually get caught because of their need to show off on social media; the inherent changes that happen to peoples’ personalities after spending too much time on social media by making them become slaves to their followers; the chaotic perplexity of Instagram’s Explore Page that makes the fundamental definition of narcissism a bit more glaring; the gradual reduction in humans’ attention spans over the years; the ease with which people with dark thoughts can validate those dark thoughts on the internet; and so much more. Valentine also shared some solid advice for people thinking about relocating to Canada.

Ileana also shared her opinions on impostor syndrome, some of the skills she has found useful so far in her career, her thoughts on structured and unstructured education as well as experience in the tech industry, some advice for anyone thinking about transitioning into cybersecurity just like she did, a favorite quote that inspires her, and lots more.

In this episode, host Bidemi Ologunde discussed the increasing demand for online health services and stimulants, which started trending upwards sometime in 2019, and how some startup companies have been spending millions of dollars on social media to advertise and make it easier to obtain prescription drugs that treat mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, and ADHD. Not surprisingly, many patients use those online services to get prescription drugs after claiming that TikTok ads convinced them they had ADHD.

In this episode, host Bidemi Ologunde discussed yet another consequence of the labor market disruption which is seeing many people transition from blue-collar jobs and hourly work to “new collar” roles that often involve tech skills and come with better pay and schedules. Meanwhile, on the dark side of this disruption is the increasing popularity of income-share agreements, also known as ISAs, as in the case of a single mom who has now filed a lawsuit in California after signing up for a $30,000 ISA at a for-profit coding boot camp, alleging that she entered the agreement under “false pretenses.”
