  • Grace goes full Griswold this Christmas

Grace goes full Griswold this Christmas and she landed into WLR decked head to toe in baubles and tinsel.

She is stepping into her favourite time of the year and has gone full throttle into Christmas this week.

We all have baubles and Christmas decorations which hold sentimental value for us.

Grace is no different, and she brought a selection of choices in to studio for us to see.

From now until Christmas, she is watching and rewatching some of her favourite seasonal movies.

Top of that list for Grace (and for Dymphna) is National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

For this month, she is not Grace Drohan, she is proudly Grace Griswold.

  • Waterford's British Consul-General of the Philippines

Kilkenny-born, Mount Sion-educated William Joseph Kenny would travel the world in the late 19th and early 20th century.

His story began attending universities in Germany and France to working as a student interpreter in China and Japan.

Kenny rose through the ranks of the British consular services, leading the Irishman to become British Consul-General in the Philippines in 1903.

Sadly, ill-health brought an end to his career in Asia.

A fascinating story, which carries echoes today in Mount Avenue, Cheekpoint which was knocked down in the 1950s.

According to Andrew Doherty (Tides and Tales) the property was part of the Power family estate, better known today as the Faithlegg estate.

  • From Waterford Roots to Gold Rush Fame—the famous Mormon millionaire

The son of a Waterford man, Samuel S. Brannan went on to establish the first newspaper in San Francisco.

Many commentators suggested that Brannan was the first to publicise the California Gold Rush.

Brannan membered the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

However he would come into conflict with church authorities as he went from being a Mormon millionaire to dying penniless in 1889.

The son of a Waterford man, Brannan was successful, pioneering, and gained national fame for his pursuits.

However, like many of the characters absorbed into the pages of history, his story is bittersweet.

  • The Waterford Christmas haunting of twin brothers

Twin brothers Eli and Jack Hayson are the subject of a rather chilling tale this week with Cian Manning.

On Christmas Eve, one brother was at home in Waterford.

At the same time, another brother was aboard a ship which was docked in Cork.

That night saw one brother experience a vision, while the other did not live to see Christmas Day.

Only years later would further light be shed on the Hayson family’s tragedy.

Cian recounts this story which raises the question...'Do twins share an unexplinable telepathic connection?'
