Gemma and Ian chat to Dan Abbott.  Dan works at Save The Med Foundation.  He is incredibly passionate about marine conservation, underwater filmmaking, drones and helping people understand the world of sharks. It’s probably safe to say sharks are his main passion, and he has spent the last five years traveling around the world filming various species including great white sharks, bull sharks, tiger sharks and hammerhead sharks.

Gemma and Ian chat to Dave Conlin.  Dave was born and raised in Boulder Colorado and knew early on he wanted to be an underwater archaeologist.  He is part of National Park Service’s Submerged Resources Centre dives on shipwrecks around the USA and around the world.  Landmark projects include work on the B-29 Superfortress that crashed into Lake Mead in 1948, work on USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor.  We chat to him about his involvement with the USS Arizona.

Gemma and Ian chat to Daniela Ceccarelli who is a marine biologist who is based on Magnetic Island.  She works for the Australian Institute of Marine Science as the Fish Ecologist on the Long-term Monitoring Program on the Great Barrier Reef.  She arrived in Australia in 1995 from Switzland and always knew she had a connection to the ocean.

Gemma and Ian chat to Elaine Whiteford.  Elaine learned to dive in 2002 and qualified as an Instructor (Master Scuba Diver Trainer) in 2005. She is based in Scotland and dives all year round in the North Sea and the sea lochs of the Scottish west coast. A photographer before she was a diver, taking pictures underwater was a natural development for Elaine, who was awarded a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society with a portfolio of underwater images.

She has had articles published in a range of magazines, both general interest and diving, including Scottish Wildlife, Diver, The Undersea Journal, The Sea, BBC Wildlife and the Scot’s Magazine. Her work has also featured in a number of exhibitions, such as the Royal Photographic Society's Projected Image Exhibition, the Edinburgh International Exhibition of Photography and the Scottish Parliament's Biodiversity Exhibition. She had a solo exhibition, Scotland’s Waters Brought To Life, in Stirling's Smith Museum. Her images have appeared in a range of books and she is a contributor to Wild & Temperate Seas, 50 Favourite UK Dives, which was published in November, 2020.

Elaine was shortlisted in the 2020 Scottish Nature Photography Awards and her image appears in the Portfolio Yearbook which was published in the autumn of 2021.

Gemma and Ian chat to Samantha Falcucci.  Samantha Falcucci is a technology professional in New York City, STEM mentor, and ocean and space exploration advocate. After studying Information Systems & Marketing at the University of Texas at Austin, she launched into a business-technology career and has worked at Microsoft for six years guiding enterprise customers through their unique digital transformations. She has fostered a passion for science all her life and is dedicated to hands-on scientific research and communication in both space and ocean related fields. She earned her Advanced Scuba certification at 17 and is passionate about diving and marine science. She is a citizen scientist volunteer recording microplastics presence at the Jersey Shore for the Plastic Wave Project and is a member of the NYC Sea Gypsies scuba club. In August 2021 she became a trained analog astronaut and helped lead a Mars simulation in the Mojave Desert with an international crew. She dedicates her passion for science to her late grandfather who was an entomologist and loved launching model rockets together. She strives to set an example as a citizen-scientist while advocating for diverse backgrounds needed in exploration. Her advice to aspiring conservationists is to find unconventional ways to study and care for the ocean regardless of your age or if it is directly related to your job and studies. She looks forward to sharing all of her upcoming space and ocean related experiences on her Instagram blog

Gemma and Ian chat to Chris Jewell.  We are on location in Cheddar Gorge, a limestone valley in the UK recording on the Ford Custom Transit Nugget.  Chris is a cave diver and cave explorer and as a member of the British Cave Rescue Council was one of the British cave divers who played a leading role in the 2018 Tham Luang Thailand cave rescue.  Chris talks more about the current film that is now on release, The Rescue and the movie that will be released in 2022 directed by Ron Howard.    Have a listen and let us know what you think. #
