The Supreme Court's internal inquiry panel has given a clean chit to CJI Ranjan Gogoi.

This has been quite the controversial case as it is against the CJI - and there was lot of questions about the way it was handled right from the beginning when CJI Gogoi held a special hearing but didn't officially include his name. Then the complainant backed out saying that she had reservations about receiving justice from the committee.

Recently there were also reports of Justice DY Chandrachud writing a letter to the inquiry committee asking them to not proceed with the hearing in the absence of the complainant because the reputation of the SC depended on it.

And indeed the reputation does depend on how the Supreme Court handles a case of alleged sexual harassment made against one of it's own and not just that but the highest authority in the court. PM Modi’s press conference/media interaction is the big story of the day. Or rather, the big story of the day is the press conference that never was.

Are the allegations of sexual harassment and intimidation against the Chief Justice of India part of some larger conspiracy, a conspiracy which poses a threat to the independence of India’s Judiciary?

Well, that’s the question that has taken center stage at the Supreme Court for the last two days, culminating with the judges ordering a special probe into these claims of a conspiracy on 25 April.

Today we’ll walk you through what happened in the Supreme Court and why it’s so important to India’s legal system.

The case in the Supreme court is a result of two developments. The first was CJI Ranjan Gogoi being accused of sexual harassment and intimidation by a former junior court assistant. The second, was an affidavit filed by lawyer Utsav Bains that there was a larger conspiracy at play to “frame CJI Ranjan Gogoi.”

Tuesday, 23 April is the national day of mourning in Sri Lanka after a wave of suicide bombs that hit three churches and three luxury hotels left more than 300 dead and 500 injured on Easter Day. At least 36 out of those who died in the attacks were foreigners, including at least 10 Indians.

It's been two days since the attack and there hasn't been much headway except for a few speculations and suspects behind the attacks and in today’s Big Story Podcast we look what we know about the Sri Lankan attacks so far and what we don’t.
