Today we welcome Chris Smith filed Friday to challenge incumbent Brenda Fantroy-Johnson for Bainbridge City Council.

Fantroy-Johnson was appointed to the District 2 North Ward spot last winter. The winner in November will serve the remainder of a two-year term.

Dennis Miller added his name running against incumbent Joe Deets. Ron Peltier, a former councilman, and Lisa Mandelkorn had already filed for the District 7 North Ward spot. It's for a four-year term. The top two in the primary in August will advance to the general election.

ABOUT: Dennis Miller (Nonpartisan)

Phone: (206) 799-1466 Email: [email protected] Elected Experience: During my 50 years as a registered voter, this is the first time I will be on a ballot. I will be hearing ideas and looking at the issues of our community without the influence of any past political bias. Other Professional Experience: I have 40 years of experience as a General Contractor and small business owner. I will bring professionalism and a commitment to honesty, integrity, and open communication to my candidacy and the council. Education: College: Humboldt State University, Area of study: Industrial Arts Community Service: I spent thirteen years in the youth sports of soccer, baseball, and softball known as "Coach Dennis".

Statement: When I told my family I was considering running for council, my daughter, a Political Science major asked, "Why should I vote for you? What issues and concerns are important to you?" What happened to, "Wonderful Dad, of course, I'll vote for you?" Instead, I heard questions from a concerned voter needing to know more. My campaign answers would be: stewarding our environment, growth at a reasonable pace, city services that work for all, island businesses staying vital, housing options for all, improving roads, bike lanes, hiking trails, and a few dozen more. These are the expected political answers, but I'm not speaking as a politician. I'm a husband, a father, and every day I care for family and home and work to be a considerate neighbor. Simple yes, but my personal values will be at the core of my decision making as a council member. As a future council member, Family encompasses our Bainbridge community, Home, is our entire island, and Neighborhood is our responsibility to look beyond our shore. My focus, goal, and desire will always be to keep Bainbridge an amazing place where we all feel fortunate to be living.

(voters guide, city council candidate, North ward Bainbridge Island, WA. kitsap county 2021)

Today we welcome Dom Capese

Dominic is an independent journalist and Podcaster.

His podcast will examine the system of accountability as it exists in Washington state. We'll talk about modern policing, crisis training, accountability measures, and the legislation spawned by the 2020 protests. Through the words of activists, law enforcement, scholars, family members of victims of police violence, reporters, and legislators, we'll discuss accountability measures as they were in the summer of 2020, the legislation enacted to strengthen police accountability, and the gaps in accountability left unaddressed.

PLEASE SUPPORT HIS INCREDIBLE WORK

Today we welcome Christian & Ria Kaelin to discuss foraging, growing, and some of the health benefits of MUSHROOMS.

Provisions Farm

Provisions Mushroom Farm has morphed like mycelium over the past 15 years. The farm's humble beginnings started as a 75 member CSA mushroom farm, with the help of veteran Helsing Junction Farm's CSA delivery system. The beginning of the boutique CSA experience in the U.S.. Continuing with CSA, Provisions grew into vending at various Farmers Markets including, Olympia, Proctor Tacoma, Gig Harbor and the West Olympia. For 8 years, Provisions produced "My CO2 Kit" mushroom bags (natural co2 production) for indoor garden supply stores in the local area. Farm Founder, Christian Kaelin is continuing to expand Provisions outreach by educating and helping others diversify, through the integration of mushroom cultivation and soil remediation into their farm systems.
