This week, Kev 'n' Ugie watched Wayne's World! This was Ugie's first time seeing it and he wasn't a fan. Kev tried to be a gracious, forgiving friend but we're not sure he pulled it off.
The boys do their usual breakdown of all of their favorite parts of the movie. The best part of this episode, however, is them being completely misaligned on whether it's a good movie. It's a first for the pod and thankfully more episodes will still be coming!
Really what we (meaning Kev) learned here is that this is a pretty white movie. The depiction of suburban metalheads speaks to a pretty specific demographic, and that's a demographic Ugie and his family were not part of.
What do y'all think? Is Ugie being too harsh? Or is Wayne's World really a movie that you need to grow up on to appreciate?

This week the boys had the daunting task of watching a Kevin Spacey movie in 2026 and trying to enjoy it. It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.
The Usual Suspects is by far one of the greatest unfolding mysteries in cinema history and has influences countless successors. The boys hopped in to relive it and honestly loved every second of it. The pacing, the camera work, and the endless permutations of "what if" make this a true gem of a film. It's the kind of movie where every watch unlocks more questions, and each one has many possible answers.
Kev and Ugie end up all over the place with this one, but one thing is for sure: you can still enjoy this movie today, as long as you have the capacity for separating the art from the artist. Which is, admittedly, a big ask.

This week, the boys watched The Kingdom. What Kev remembered as an action-packed thriller actually turned out to be something quite different, for better and worse.
From Pete Berg ("friend of the podcast") comes an accidentally-political time capsule of the way the US saw the middle east in the mid-2000s. While it seems to have been an earnest attempt at commenting on the multi-generational cycle of violence and corruption, there were skidmarks of "'MURICA" all over the film's proverbial undies. We ended up still having a good time, but it was certainly interesting to look at it through 2026 eyes.
Putting all that aside, though, what you end up with on the surface is a legitimately well-shot, well-acted, affecting movie. The cast is excellent top-to-bottom with some really shining performances from Ashraf Barhom and Jamie Foxx that carry the heart of the film. What Pete Berg lacks as a partner to Detective Fanning (we won't forget!) he more than makes up for as a director. The sets and cinematography are really affecting and bring you into the world.
What do you think? Do the visuals and the excitement make up for the "messy" politics? Or did you cringe too hard to even see the good parts?

This week the boys welcome Web back to the show and Ugie's brother Brian joins us for the first (but not last) time. The squad is here to cover the 90s consumerist fever dream that is Space Jam, celebrating its 30th anniversary later this year.
Let's just make it clear: we all love this movie. We all grew up on this movie, so obviously it is a part of who we are. But... boy, is this a bad movie by most measures. Come join us as we try to marry our film analysis with our childhood and deal with the discord.
From Michael Jordan's "performance" to the cameos to the excellence of the Looney-Tunes-ness of it all, we cover every angle of this movie. We also cover a lot of things that have little-to-nothing to do with the movie. Keep an eye out in particular for the moment where the Gen Z kid asks a bunch of Millennials if they remember Toys R Us.

This week, we watched Dog Soldiers. Kev takes all of us (including Ugie) on a journey back to an indie horror movie from his childhood. Thankfully, Ugie loved it and we hope you do too!
Dog Soldiers is a way-too-little-known masterpiece by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Doomsday). Certainly one of the best, if not THE best, British horror films ever made. We get into all the reasons why it stands above much bigger budget films with its practical effects and characters that keep you invested. Of course, Kev also was ready to share tons of trivia and fun facts because he's a huge dork for this movie.
But what do you think? Does this little flick punch above its weight like we think it does? Is it truly an underrated horror classic or is it just some dancers in costumes in the woods?

What a movie. This is one of those episodes where Kev 'n' Ugie just gush the majority of the time. Michael Mann's directing is at its best here, hitting you with shots the whole time that surprise you. The tension and pacing is held so well by the actors. There isn't a bad take to be found. This episode is hot off the presses with our new format too! Please tell us what you think.

Welcome to the layer cake, son.
This week we watched Layer Cake, an Ugie staple.
We mostly just praise Daniel Craig the whole time. But we give lots of love to everything else in this gem of a movie. Matthew Vaughn put on a masterclass and we unpack everything we can.
We also play a game Ugie made up called "Every British actor is in Harry Potter," a game we will be continuing when we do future British movies.

Lethal Weapon is in that elite tier of 80s action movies. It is a pillar of the buddy cop genre with some truly iconic scenes. And on this rewatch, we find a few more layers to it, some of which are tough to sit with.Danny Glover and Mel Gibson have incredible chemistry and command the screen, both together and individually. They hold the tension in the dark subject matter while still making you appreciate a good action scene when it comes. We also spend a lot of time on how this movie portrays mental health. It's not entirely great, but the movie reconciles itself well. Ultimately, we just don't understand how the franchise went from this to Lethal Weapon 4.๐๏ธ The Black and White Cinema Podcast with Kev 'n' Ugie

Puff Puff Pass is a low-budget, straight-to-DVD stoner movie. Thankfully, it's self-aware enough to still be funny and punch above its weight class.vKev and Ugie are here to walk you through this Mekhi Phifer vehicle in all its... glory?
Yes, it stars an absolute piece of trash in Danny Masterson. Yes, it looks like it was shot 10 years before it was. Yes, it's racist, homophobic, transphobic, classist, and doesn't have any "good guys." But maybe we suck too because we laughed (almost) constantly.
What this movie tells us for sure is that studios aren't always required to put together a script that is legitimately funny. If you can set your morals aside for comedy, you'll probably laugh. If you can't... this is probably one to skip.

Head of State (2003) is certainly not perfect, but it is hilarious and eerily prescient. Kev and Ugie are here to talk all about this gem that Chris Rock wrote, directed, and starred in. It hits harder on politics and class than it gets credit for, while also just being a genuinely funny movie.
The boys get into the comedy and how much they love it, precisely because much of it is Rock's throw-away stand-up bits. They also cover the political satire and class commentary that lands just as well today as it did in 2003. Best of all, Bernie Mac absolutely delivers as the perfect companion to bring everything home.
