In our final segment for the 2025 Native American Heritage Month, we explore the Marian Apparition of The Virgin of Urkupiña, in Bolivia. This is yet another legend surrounding the Virgin Mary appearing to an Indigenous girl, which subsequently inspired many rituals, ceremonies and pilgrimages.

This episode features Santa Maria de Itziar. Our Lady is one of the Seven Black Virgins of Gipuzkoa, located next to the coastal path of the route to Santiago de Compostela. She is considered as a protective virgin and guide for walkers, as she is on the Camino de la Costa on the route to Santiago de Compostela. Santa Maria is another example of the consequences of restoration, but has a history of gilt silver and then updated to her current presentation.
