Continuing with our September series on resilience, Notre Dame de Sarrance - The Virgin of the Stone is an inspiring example for us to explore. She is housed in a Monastery community in a mountain pass in the Pyrenees region of France. Her resilience helped her survive religious wars from several generations.

This episode continues our theme for September, that of The Black Madonna as a symbol of resilience. The Black Dear Lady of Brussels and the church where she resides offer both hope and inspiration as well as a painful mirror of the dangers we are facing during our polarized time where powerful groups seek to oppress the marginalized in order to distract from responsibilities.

For this episode, we will be continuing the theme set by the interview with Dr. Cleveland and her book The Black Madonna: Icon of Resistance and Nourisher of Souls. It is a bit long , but I am feeling moved by current events and also how The Black Madonna is a nourisher of souls especially during difficult times. even when they have been destroyed as the Madonnas were during the French Revolution, the are reborn so to speak. In our times of great trial, I hope we can all join together so as to imagine and then create a new cultural impulse that can heal the wounds being inflicted during our times.

Blessings on Your Journey!

The Virgin of Guadalupe and Magnifica Humanitas is the completion of the August 2026 series. As we are a mere 5 years from the 500th anniversary of the original apparitions, the parallels between the times of the apparition and our current challenges are remarkable.

As the second segment in the Black Madonna Speaks August 2026 series, Our Lady of Montserrat is the featured Black Madonna in the spirit of Magnifica Humanitas. Her narrative and inspiration through the ages has much to offer people of good will who are searching for examples of how to encounter the onslaught of artificial everything through technology in full moral consciousness.

On May 15, 2026 a remarkable document was released from the Vatican under the auspices of Pope Leo XIV. It is called Magnifica Humanitas, the Magnificent Human and is all about how the emerging dominance of technology needs to have a moral counter as well as an approach that maintains human dignity and rights. It got me a thinking as they say, as I feel that while I enjoy and utilize many of the modern technological wonders of our era, there are obvious dangers if it is not encountered in a moral and conscious way. With my research on The Black Madonna as well as The Virgin of Guadalupe, I felt that these images and their narratives have much to offer in the spirit of Magnifica Humanitas. August will feature several Black Madonnas in this theme. This is the first podcast introduces the subject.
