Here I discuss my first attempts at "Department Openers".

Department Openers are poster like pages always on the left hand side to indicate the beginning of a section in the Front of the Book (see below) around a theme, e.g. Music, Art, Fashion, etc.

Front of the Book: The front section of the magazine consisting usually of a Table of Contents, Editor's Letter, Contributors, Advertisements, and short one-two page topics.

Every week I talk about my progress on creating my own magazine from concept to cover/back page, and all parts in between, and eventually into a bound product.  The class was Editorial Design at the School of Visual Arts, Robert Best was my professor.
