I find the social dynamics of this Coronavirus scare to be fascinating. Each person appears to be getting locked into a view of the situation that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Be a disruptor! Dispatch the dark cloud and move on with your day!With only ~4500 cases in a world of 7 Billion you stand a better chance of dying from a temperature related death (like freezing or burning) than Coronavirus. And yet the world shut down for this?Whatever it might profit us, it's not worth dwelling in such a dark cloud. It's time to dispatch it!

These are the times that try men's souls... This is an empowering message for a discouraging time.For a moment it makes sense to acknowledge the darkness, but the bulk of this podcast is about resisting it rather than dwelling on it and there is an important difference! Because we cannot resist what we fail to acknowledge, but we do not defeat it by marinating in it. We must be careful not to allow the darkness to overcome us. It is written: do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. And it is also written: the light shines in the darkness and the darkness comprehended it not.Meaning, that God is calling you to be a light and warning you that you will not make sense to those who are in darkness, until after they are convinced by the self evident nature of your light. They will understand when they join you.The battle between light and darkness is one of conversion. Like the game of Othello, darkness tries to jump light forcing it to change it’s color. But light should respond by refusing to turn, even when it’s jumped. And then by multiplying itself rather than becoming discouraged and behaving overwhelmed. Because make no mistake, the state of being overwhelmed is a behavior. You are only overwhelmed when you give up. And so the only thing we should be failing at, is failing to give up!

It's gripping and it relates to this podcast in a very direct and meaningful way. In particular, there was one comment that stood out and really struck me as revelatory. And that was the idea of the spoils of war. After winning a spiritual warfare battle, we really should plunder the enemy. And so far as I know, I have never done that yet. I gave this book 1 star because it aspires to nefarious goals and it's terrible writing. Therefore consider this a podcast book review critique. I make many references to the earlier podcast entitled Meno by Plato so you may want to listen to that one first.If you are familiar with Plato's work, then you know that Socrates has a passion for debate. The stakes are high this time, because in this case Socrates is arguing to save his life.The book opens to the very public trial of Socrates who divides his accusers into two camps: those of long ago and those in the present day. He argues that his accusers of long ago hate him because they are filled with jealousy. According to him, a friend asked the Oracle if Socrates was the smartest man and she said, yes. This sent Socrates on a quest because he disagreed with her assessment. He planned to find someone who exceeded him in wisdom so he could confront the Oracle and demand an explanation. First he went to the politicians and questioned the man of the best reputation. After concluding with his questions he judged the man to be among the greatest of fools and said so publicly. This had the expected outcome: the man and his friends hated Socrates and sought his ruin. According to Socrates they circulated lies about him. After meeting with the politicians next he turned to the poets and finally to the artisans. In each case, after questioning these men, he publicly humiliated them and afterwards concluded they were fools. Again, this was group that comprised the accusers of long ago.The second accusation was that Socrates was teaching the people atheism and corrupting the children. They further insinuated that he did this for pay and his accusers warned the judges and the people that Socrates spoke with a forceful eloquence. Get the full list of classics here
