In Episode 9 of The Book Pod 'It Was A Slaughter Of Darlings And I Just Felt Fantastic', Presenter Corrie Perkin welcomes her journalism hero David Marr to the studio. The topic: David's new book My Country: Stories, Essays and Speeches.
For more than 45 years, Sydney journalist and author David Marr has been shining light in dark corners. From his early years as a young reporter observing the crash-and-burn of the Whitlam government, to uncovering corruption scandals and dodgy politics in the New South Wales Government, and then, in recent years, tackling grave issues of national importance such as the Royal Commission into Child Sex Abuse within Institutions, David has been a witness to our time.
Over four decades David has written millions of words about the community scandals, political characters, and fierce debates that have divided and - at times - united us. He is also a regular on our TV sets, our podcasts, our radio shows.
David Marr is the recipient of four Walkley Awards, he has written more than 12 books including the brilliant 1991 award-winning biography of Patrick White, and he has honorary doctorates and fellowships from universities around the country.
David's new book My Country: Stories, Essays and Speechesis is available here.
Highly recommended this week is 'Normal People' by Sally Rooney winner of the Costa Novel Award recently.
