  • The Brownies and Prince Florimel by Palmer Cox ~ Full Audiobook [fantasy]
The Brownies and Prince Florimel by Palmer Cox audiobook. Genre: fantasy When King Florimel's father dies, the rightful heir discovers that a ruthless uncle is ready to take the throne and erase him from the story for good. There is one problem the court cannot ignore: Florimel is brave, clever, and noble, but he is also very small, and the grown rulers around him treat his size as a reason to deny his claim. Forced to flee, Florimel carries the strange legacy of a fairy godmother: hints of second sight and a gift meant to protect him when ordinary strength is not enough. His escape draws him beyond human roads into the hidden night-world of the Brownies, the mischievous, warmhearted sprites who work in secret and travel everywhere. Among them he finds unexpected allies, new rules of courage, and a foster-king whose lessons are as practical as they are magical. But the deeper Florimel is pulled into Brownieland, Fairyland, and darker realms, the more he must face enchantments, traps, and an ill-tempered power who would bend both humans and magical folk to his will. Told in Cox's lively, illustrated style, this is a fairy adventure about dignity, loyalty, and refusing to be measured by size alone. • Island Nights Entertainments by Robert Louis Stevenson ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]
Island Nights Entertainments by Robert Louis Stevenson audiobook. Genre: adventure In Island Nights Entertainments, Robert Louis Stevenson gathers three vivid tales that blend the heat and color of the South Pacific with sharp moral tension and a taste for the uncanny. In The Beach of Falesa, a principled trader arrives on a remote island to build an honest life, only to find himself tangled in local rivalries, colonial exploitation, and a marriage arranged under troubling misunderstandings. In The Bottle Imp, a restless young man acquires a mysterious bottle said to grant wishes, but the gift carries a perilous condition that turns every desire into a gamble with the soul. In The Isle of Voices, an islander newly married into a strange family is drawn into a secret world of hidden wealth and whispered dangers, where greed and loyalty pull in opposite directions. Across these stories, Stevenson explores ambition, temptation, cultural collision, and the uneasy line between bravery and folly, all rendered with brisk storytelling, atmospheric settings, and characters forced to reckon with what they truly value when paradise proves anything but simple. • A Broken Bond by Nicholas Carter ~ Full Audiobook [mystery]
A Broken Bond by Nicholas Carter audiobook. Genre: mystery In A Broken Bond: Or, The Man Without Morals, a fortune made in a South American mining venture turns two longtime partners into enemies overnight. When Winthrop Crawford survives what looks like a carefully planned ambush in the mountains, the attack raises a terrifying question: who would risk everything to see him dead, and why now, just as the partners are poised to cash out? Rumors of jealousy and treachery swirl around Crawford's associate, James Stone, a man whose behavior suggests both ruthless calculation and a mind slipping its moorings. As danger follows Crawford across borders and new attempts close in, the case draws the attention of master detective Nick Carter and his trusted team, who begin pulling at a tangled thread of suspicious letters, money trails, and convenient alibis. The deeper Nick digs, the less this feels like a simple business dispute, and the more it resembles a deliberate campaign to ruin a man and erase the past. Fast, twisty, and charged with moral ambiguity, the story pits loyalty against greed and asks what can happen when conscience finally breaks. • Another Brownie Book by Palmer Cox ~ Full Audiobook [fantasy]
Another Brownie Book by Palmer Cox audiobook. Genre: fantasy In Another Brownie Book, illustrator and poet Palmer Cox invites listeners back into the moonlit world of the Brownies - tiny, quick-witted sprites who slip out while townsfolk sleep to turn ordinary places into stages for mischief, teamwork, and secret good deeds. Told in lively rhyming verse and originally paired with Cox's own drawings, these episodic tales follow the Brownies as they tackle one nighttime scheme after another: shaping winter snow into a village surprise, organizing bustling make-believe enterprises, and testing their ingenuity in barns, orchards, classrooms, and grand public spaces where a small band can cause a very large commotion. But their fun is never only for fun's sake - each adventure becomes a contest of creativity, coordination, and clever problem-solving, with the Brownies balancing prankish impulses against a curious kind of responsibility to the human world they cannot fully join. Playful, energetic, and packed with vivid set pieces, this classic collection blends humor and wonder while celebrating the joy of hard work, the thrill of secrecy, and the magic that might be happening just out of sight. • The Pirates by Morgan Robertson ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]
The Pirates by Morgan Robertson audiobook. Genre: adventure When Ensign William Denman stays aboard a brand-new U.S. Navy destroyer for one quiet night, he expects nothing more dangerous than paperwork and a watchman's round. Their leader, the hard-handed Herbert Jenkins, offers Denman a stark choice: parole and cooperation, or confinement in irons. Denman gives his word not to interfere, but honor does not make him safe. As the stolen destroyer surges into the Atlantic and warships begin to close in, Denman discovers an even more personal threat among the fugitives: John Forsythe, his boyhood rival, carrying an old grievance that time and uniforms have not erased. Trapped on a vessel that can outrun almost anything but cannot outrun consequences, Denman must weigh duty against survival, read the shifting loyalties of desperate men, and decide how far a naval officer can bend before he breaks. The Eight Strokes of the Clock by Maurice Leblanc audiobook. • Is Shakespeare Dead by Mark Twain ~ Full Audiobook [history]
Is Shakespeare Dead by Mark Twain audiobook. Genre: history A short, semi-autobiographical work by American humorist Mark Twain. It explores the controversy over the authorship of the Shakespearean literary canon via satire, anecdote, and extensive quotation of contemporary authors on the subject. In the book, Twain expounds the view that Shakespeare of Stratford was not the author of the canon, and lends tentative support to the Baconian theory. The book opens with a scene from his early adulthood, where he was trained to be a steamboat pilot by an elder who often argued with him over the controversy. Twain's arguments include the following points: That little was known about Shakespeare's life, and the bulk of his biographies were based on conjecture. That a number of eminent British barristers and judges found Shakespeare's plays permeated with precise legal thought, and that the author could only have been a veteran legal professional. That in contrast, Shakespeare of Stratford had never held a legal position or office, and had only been in court over petty lawsuits late in life. That small towns lionize and celebrate their famous authors for generations, but this had not happened in Shakespeare's case. He described his own fame in Hannibal as a case in point. Twain draws parallels and analogies from the pretensions of modern religious figures and commentators on the nature of Satan. He compares the believers in Shakespeare to adherents of Arthur Orton and Mary Baker Eddy.
