In this episode, we wrap up our challenging 2024 big game season with an epic finale. After weeks of hard work and few animals, Garett finally bagged his elk after two relentless days of tracking a bull. Then, on the final weekend, Jared and Holly both tagged out—Holly with her biggest buck yet and Jared with a mature Montana prairie mule deer on the very last day. The season tested our grit, but in the end, persistence paid off, and the trophies hit the ground. Tune in to hear the highs, lows, and lessons from a season we’ll never forget.
In this episode, the Bovasin Crew recounts the ups and downs of a hunting season full of missed opportunities and unexpected challenges. Late-season antelope hunts found the team too late to harvest one with horns, as most had already shed. Long days spent tracking elk led to little more than old sign, and mule deer numbers were disappointingly low. Jared recounts missing a solid buck, with Holly providing plenty of lighthearted ribbing. The frustration hit its peak one morning as other hunters dashed ahead into a prime spot, leaving the crew trekking all day with little fresh sign. Just as hope began to fade, a mature bull finally appeared at sunset—on the last night of the weekend before they had to return to town for work. It’s a candid look at what makes hunting both maddening and rewarding.
Episode Description: "Altitude for Antlers"
In this thrilling episode, join the Bovasin crew—Jared and Garett—as they take to the skies and fly into an isolated section of landlocked public land on a 7-day elk hunt. Adventure hit fast when, on day one, they discovered the cattle tanks they planned to use for water were bone dry. With no choice but to call for backup, their pilot swooped in with a crucial water drop, allowing the hunt to continue.
Determined, Jared and Garett pressed on, encountering two heart-stopping moments with a trophy bull. One close call had them watching from across a private fence, and another bull surfaced after shooting hours, keeping the crew on their toes. Along the way, they stumbled upon shed antlers—so many, in fact, that the haul required an extra plane trip to carry it all out.
Tune in to hear about the highs, the lows, and the unforgettable moments from this epic fly-in hunt.
In this episode, join the Bovasin Crew as we recount an unforgettable antelope and bird hunting adventure in Montana. It all started with a bump in the road—Holly's kidney stone the day before we planned to leave. Despite the rough start, the journey continued with yet another rough patch, the very large number of hunters that were vying for antelope on public land. Listen as Holly shares the story of her first antelope and the excitement of taking down a dandy buck. Meanwhile, Garett and The Old Man explored new territory, and Jared capped off the trip by limiting out on pheasants. It’s a wild ride of challenges, triumphs, and unexpected moments!

In this episode, Jared and Garett explore the question: Should we raise our kids in the outdoors? They discuss the challenges of introducing children to a way of life that’s slowly fading, from exposure to the elements to the realities of hunting in an increasingly commercialized, competitive landscape. With public access shrinking and hunting pressure rising, is it still worth teaching kids the values of outdoor life, knowing it may become harder for them to experience in the future? Or should we guide them towards hobbies that might be less fraught with future disappointments?
Join the Bovasin crew as we recount an unforgettable 7-day backcountry mountain goat hunt in the remote wilderness of Montana. In late October, we were dropped 5 miles into the snow-covered terrain on horseback, where daily storms and deep drifts tested our resolve. After steep hikes up mountain ridges, following black bear tracks and navigating 1000-foot cliffs, we finally spotted the elusive mountain goat on the 4th day. On the 5th day, we harvested a stunning, haired-out trophy. The adventure didn’t end there—our 19.2-hour trek out of the wilderness, through grizzly-infested forests, alongside fresh mountain lion tracks, and shadowed by a mysterious creature with glowing yellow eyes, was the final test of endurance. By the end of the journey, we had covered a total of 55 miles on foot. Tune in to hear about this epic saga of resilience, wildlife encounters, and the ultimate reward of a hard-fought hunt.
