  • 250) How to Build a Foundation for Setting Healthy Boundaries

In this episode of The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast I am speaking about how to build a solid foundation for setting healthy boundaries. There is a lot of information and suggestions for how to do this out there, but what they neglect to mention is all the pre-work that is necessary before you ever try to set a boundary.

If you are a people-pleaser like I used to be and unable to make your needs a priority at times, you need to listen to this episode. When you learn to be honest and authentic in your relationships and that it is okay to say no and disappoint your family and loved ones at times, it is downright liberating and even life-changing.

I hope I sold you on why you want to learn how to set healthy boundaries. Now listen and learn about the pre-work necessary to have a nervous system that will permit you to create healthy boundaries and reinforce them. It's a short listen and will be well worth your time.

You know that feeling you get when you keep saying yes, but you really want to say no?

The resentment you feel when they  keep asking you to do things for them, and you keep caving and  hiding how you are really feeling?

    That's totally optional!

You can actually learn how to set healthy boundaries at any age and improve the quality of your relationships and this episode can be the spark to get you going.

  • 249) We Don't Have to be Included in Every Event

This week on the Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast I am doing an episode on how to deal with it when you don't get that invite that everybody else appears to have received. Let's be real, it's not a good feeling and nobody likes that to happen but it happens to all of us and we are all guilty of doing it to other people.

So what's the best way to deal with it? I lay it all out in the episode and explain why we must tap into leadership energy when we are feeling excluded. I even take it further to suggest that it's a blessing when we don't get invited to every event. Listen to this episode and find out why!

  • 248) Healing Trauma by Building Resilience

This week on The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast I am speaking with resilience coach and published author Elizabeth Morse. Liz and I talk about how powerful our subconscious programming is and why we need to address that too instead of just making our mindset the primary focus.

In this episode you will discover just how much of an impact our internalized beliefs have over us-especially if we have been squashing them down for decades. They literally create whatever it is we experience in life so it is super important to become aware of them.

Working with Liz can help you to build resilience and regulate your nervous system so you can experience success in life and feel emotionally safe.

  • 247) Making the Commitment to Community

In this episode I discuss how I decided who I wanted to support this year in the SB community. I talk about some of the things that held me back in the past and why now is the perfect time for me to move froward with The Horse Project and The Unity Shoppe.

I hope by sharing my perspective with you about the importance of "volunteering", you will come to the same conclusion I did... It's really non-negotiable!

With the way things are playing out in DC and the current state of the world, making a commitment to community is more important than ever. It's also a great way to experience the power of community and collaboration AND make some awesome friends.

Listen to this episode and get inspired to find your own people or organizations that light you up. A place where you feel like you would be a good fit and have something to offer. Wherever you go or whatever you decide to do, it will be a win-win situation for everybody involved if you follow your heart.

Now that I am rereading the show notes and reflecting on the podcast, I'm worried I switched Angela Miller-Bevan's last names around LOL

  • 246) Healing With Horses. Part 2

This week on The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast  I am speaking with Martha Varela who is the Executive Director of the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) California Chapter. We talk about the issues women veterans face and the unique challenges that females experience in a male dominated military.

Because there are so few options geared toward women veterans,  we have to celebrate when holistic programs like Better With Horses come along to help  improve the emotional, mental, and physical health of their participants.

Better with Horses is a program that was piloted byThe Horse Project Santa Barbara with input from Paralyzed Veterans of America California Chapter. Martha is participating in the program and shares with us what it entails and why she thinks the program is so special and different from any other programs out there.

If you are looking to support our military, consider sponsoring a woman veteran so that she can receive the support she needs to participate in The Better With Horses program and heal from all the trauma she has experienced in the military.

You can donate through The Horse Project website or the Paralyzed Veterans of America. Please specify that you are donating to sponsor women veterans. I'll share both links below.

    https://www.thehorseprojectsantabarbara.com

    https://www.pvacc.org

If you are on the fence and not totally sure that you buy into the magical energy of the horses, sign up to volunteer at The Horse Project Santa Barbara and feel it for yourself. There are many ways to get involved and we talk about all of it in this podcast episode and last week's as well.

Never has there been an opportunity like this to support our women veterans. No donation is too small because they all add up-this is what the power of community and collaboration is all about.

So please consider donating to this project or get involved by becoming a volunteer.  If neither of those are an option, spread the word so we can reach more veterans and more sponsors!

  • 245) The Horse Project Part 1

In this episode I speak with Linda Kiefer who is the project leader for The Horse Project in Santa Barbara. Linda shares her personal story about how she left the business world after her retirement to rescue and rehabilitate abused horses. What I love most about that is she did it at the age of 62 and is living proof that it is never too late to do anything!

Listen to this episode and get inspired by Linda's passion for horses and the amazing programs they offer at the Horse Project. Find out how you can get involved and support the project because the truth is the horses are the real healers and they have a miraculous effect on the humans who spend time with them.

Next week in part 2 we are going to focus on a program called Better With Horses that was created specifically for women veterans who are paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

  • 244) Winning the Battle Against Advanced Melanoma

In this episode I speak with Jenn Frederick who is a cancer survivor who was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma and thought that her life was about to come to an end.  You won't believe how she found out she had melanoma, how it didn't look how you might think, and all the incredible challenges she faced during her battle with cancer.

Sometimes life throws us huge curveballs and if we are open to it, the silver lining in those dark heavy clouds can lead us to our calling in life like it did for Jenn. She may have began her journey with cancer with a sense of hopelessness and despair, but somehow along the way she was able to transform her fear and doubt into a positive and confident mindset that has led to miraculous results.

Take time to listen to this episode and learn just how important mindset is when you are fighting advanced cancer and how Jenn is now inspiring other people to do that too. She knows the power of positivity and believes supporting others on their own journey is her true calling in life.

  • 243) The Far Reaching Impact of the Unity Shoppe

In this episode I introduce you to The Unity Shoppe which is an organization in Santa Barbara that helps those in need. I interview Angela Miller Beven who is the CEO of the organization about exactly what it is they do, how we can help them, and why she was inspired to leave advertising to do non-profit work.

If you are local to SB and have been thinking about volunteering or getting involved, listen to this episode so we can inspire you to join us in taking care of our community. If you are not local, maybe our conversation can inspire you to find an organization in your home town where you can make a meaningful contribution that will make a positive difference in your own community.

There is a reason I named my show The Power of Community & Collaboration Podcast. I truly believe that when we all come together with good intentions to serve those in need, beautiful and amazing things will happen!

  • 242) Sometimes Suffering is Optional

There are times in life where we are thrown a curveball that takes us off track that challenges are mental, emotional, and physical well-being. This is all part of the human experience and definitely going to cause us some degree of suffering. How we deal with those distractions is where optional suffering comes into play.

Optional suffering is when we resist what is happening to us, we start making up all kinds of stories in our head, and we actually believe our lies (Brain BS ™ )which compounds the suffering dramatically. It can look like beating the crap out of ourselves, others, or just giving into despair in general. It can also be very sneaky and hard to identify at first. We all do it whether we recognize or not is another story. It makes everything worse~

In this episode I share how I got completely hijacked by my Brain BS™ for a few months and how I found my way back to my higher self who loves life again and is eager to support other humans. If you are caught up in your head with beliefs that are not supportive and that bring you down, this episode is just what you need to get out of feeling like a victim of life and back into leadership energy.
